I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 277

When they found him, Colonel Whitaker was sitting in a woven rattan chair, a light blanket draped over his knees, his cane resting against the armrest.

Seraphina approached, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. "Colonel Whitaker, I'm a traditional medicine physician. I'd like to check your pulse."

The Colonel didn't even blink. "Not interested."

Seraphina maintained her flawless smile. "It's just a quick check. It won't take long."

"I said, not interested."

Parrish stepped forward, his tone demanding. "Sir, we're only looking out for you. The prescriptions Bonnie Hayes gave you are extremely dangerous. If the stimulants wear off, the backlash will destroy your body."

At the mention of Bonnie's name, Colonel Whitaker's face darkened with fury.

"Who says her prescriptions are dangerous?" He grabbed his cane and pointed it straight at Parrish. "Bonnie treated me for over a month before I could even take a single step! I know exactly how good she is. I don't need you two standing here running your mouths."

Seraphina scrambled to salvage the situation. "Colonel, we truly mean well—"

"Get the hell out!" Colonel Whitaker roared, his voice like cracking thunder. "Stop playing the saint in front of me!"

Sensing the escalating hostility, a nearby nurse rushed over to intervene.

But Parrish's patience had completely snapped. In his eyes, this foolish old man had been entirely brainwashed by Bonnie's lies.

He motioned sharply to his security detail. "Hold him down. Let Dr. Miller check his pulse."

Several burly bodyguards immediately lunged forward, pinning the Colonel's shoulders and arms to the chair.

Colonel Whitaker couldn't believe they actually dared to assault him. His face flushed a dangerous, mottled purple.

"Let go of me! You dare put your hands on me?!"

Panic flared in Seraphina's eyes, but she had already crossed the line. She reached out, terrified, to grab his wrist.

But the second her fingers brushed his skin, Colonel Whitaker gasped violently for air. His face turned an ashen blue, and his eyes rolled back as his body went entirely limp.

"Colonel!"

The nurse's scream tore through the tranquil courtyard.

Absolute chaos erupted.

"Get a doctor! Now!"

"He's unconscious!"

"Call Master Thorne! Hurry!"

The commotion drew the attention of dozens of elderly residents, who began crowding around the edges of the courtyard, demanding to know what had happened.

Quentin had just stepped out of his grandfather's villa when he heard the panicked screams.

He stopped, his sharp gaze cutting across the manicured lawn.
