I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 278

Before Seraphina could even drag her eyes away, Quentin leveled a freezing glare at her.

It was devoid of any overt emotion, yet the sheer, suffocating pressure of his stare nearly brought her to her knees.

Seraphina's throat seized up. She swallowed hard, her face turning an even more ghastly shade of pale.

She knew instantly that Quentin was silently warning her to keep her mouth shut.

But what terrified her more was the realization that this man, just standing there without saying a word, was infinitely more dangerous than Parrish at his most unhinged.

Catching her mounting panic, Parrish frowned deeply. "Seraphina, have you met Quentin before?"

Seraphina's heart hammered against her ribs. She shook her head out of pure survival instinct. "No."

She fought to stabilize her voice, though it still trembled. "I just... I find him incredibly intimidating."

Parrish gave her a look but brushed it off.

Quentin had always been violently cold and unapproachable. It was perfectly normal for Seraphina, or anyone meeting him for the first time, to be terrified.

Parrish said calmly, "Don't worry. He's human. He doesn't bite."

Hearing this, a lethal smirk ghosted across Quentin's lips. "Is this your new little girlfriend?"

Parrish frowned defensively. "Quentin, I'm already engaged."

Quentin's voice was remarkably flat. "I just assumed you were honoring the proud York family tradition. One woman at home, and a mistress stashed on the side."

Parrish's face contorted into a messy mix of shame and fury.

Years ago, Quentin's mother had spiraled into a devastating depression, largely because their father was keeping a mistress.

And that mistress had been Parrish's mother.

But that was ancient history. For a long time growing up, Quentin hadn't actually treated him terribly.

Parrish swallowed his anger, lowering his voice. "Quentin, you used to tell me that being born into this family wasn't my fault. I was an innocent kid."
