I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 448

Linda audibly gasped, her gossipy eyes shifting from Steven to me, her face screaming, You two are that close? Still sleeping together after the divorce?

My own eyes widened in shock. I never would have expected Steven to say something so explosive.

"Don't you dare slander me. I have nothing to do with you. Last night, you were the shameless one..." I gritted my teeth and stopped, almost falling into his conversational trap. "You care so much about your reputation. You should control your own people, so they don't embarrass you in public."

Steven raised an eyebrow, his palm wrapped in gauze.

"Am I not controlling my own person right now? Don't run off again tonight. Don't make me use other methods."

My face darkened. He still hadn't given up? He wanted me to sleep with him again tonight?

"Dream on!"

Steven didn't argue, his eyes just grew heavier. "I'll come and get you. It's settled."

I was speechless. The nerve of this man.

I glanced at the two bodyguards behind me and instantly felt more secure.

He could wait all he wanted tonight.

Linda let out a snort of laughter and looked at Steven. "Mr. Lancaster, I'm the design director at Mr. Taylor's company. What Zephyra means is that your female assistant is quite the embarrassment. She was just bullying and insulting Zephyra!"

Steven looked down at me. "Verna bullied you?"

Before I could speak, Verna bit her lip, her cool expression filled with stubborn indignation.

Steven looked at Verna. "You want to disqualify her?"

Verna's face fell, and she quickly said, "Mr. Lancaster, they're really making things up. Just now, Ms. Jones' friend was rude to me and insulted my character. I was just trying to scare her friend by saying I'd get her disqualified. I never said anything about going after Ms. Jones."

Linda sneered dismissively. "Who started it? You do things but won't admit it. What a two-faced bitch. I have no respect for her."

Her voice wasn't quiet, and Verna's face changed on the spot. "Mr. Lancaster, she's insulting me right in front of you. Doesn't that prove my point? It's clear who was being arrogant. Besides, I am your personal assistant. Are you just going to stand by and watch me get bullied?"

Linda's expression was a mixture of disdain and contempt, but she couldn't help but glance at Steven, genuinely a little afraid of Verna's influence. She then looked at me with what seemed like deep sympathy.

She leaned in and whispered, "What an arrogant mistress. How can she be more 'personal' than you? You were Mrs. Lancaster! Even divorced, you're still the former Mrs. Lancaster!"

I was speechless.
