I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 535

I felt a subtle frown crease my brow.

Steven leaned in closer, his voice growing husky. “Playing nice all of a sudden. Trying to use a honey trap on me, hmm?”

My smile didn’t falter. I wrapped my arms around his neck. “Look at you. When I don’t want you, you force yourself on me. When I’m nice to you, you question my motives. You’re impossible to please, Steven.”

Steven’s lips curved into a dangerous smile. He ran his fingers through my long hair, then suddenly nipped my earlobe, a blatant act of seduction that made my body go rigid.

Steven’s voice was a low murmur beside my ear. “Zephyra, it would be more convincing if your body would actually relax in my arms.”

My expression instantly turned cold, and I pushed him away. “I said I’d give you a chance, not that I’m suddenly in love with you. If you don’t want me to come back to you willingly, then go ahead and use force. I have plenty of weaknesses and no power. I can’t fight you.”

Steven’s gaze locked onto mine, his voice calm yet filled with an intense pressure.

“Zephyra, I don’t care what you think or what you do. I want your heart back. I want you to love me, Zephyra.”

I smiled sweetly. “We’ll have to see if you have what it takes, Mr. Lancaster.”

Steven led me by the hand to the bedroom. I wanted to sleep in a separate room, as I had before.

But Steven said coolly, “Have you ever heard of a couple trying to reconnect sleeping in separate rooms?”

He had condoms this time. I figured he was probably tired of me taking birth control pills and had decided to be smart about it.

But if we shared a bed, things would inevitably get heated. I looked at him doubtfully.

He didn't even lift his eyes. “Let's just get some good rest tonight.”

I felt that any further objections would be dismissed, so I lay down on the bed with him, my back to him. Steven wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me tightly against him. His warm chest pressed against my back, and his chin rested in the crook of my neck, an intimacy befitting a couple deep in love.

I furrowed my brow but didn’t move.

I memorized the contact information of several people and skimmed through his project directory. It was a shame I didn't have my own phone; I could do so much more. Still, reviewing his project list was a significant gain.

Just as I was about to put his phone back, another thought struck me. I searched for Verna.

I wanted to see what his goal was. After being reborn, he wasn't with his first love. Instead, he was pestering me.

I was hoping to find some dirt on Steven. Whether our marriage was valid or not, evidence of him cheating would be useful to me.

But the search results were completely unexpected. I couldn’t find Verna anywhere.

I tried searching for terms like “baby” and “darling,” but then I remembered Steven’s reserved nature and thought he wouldn't be so mushy. So, I typed in the word “wife,” and the only contact that appeared was mine.

This app was terrible. Blocking someone on my end didn't stop them from keeping my contact info.

And in the message thread, there was a single sentence that Steven had sent me yesterday. It was only a few words, but they made my eyes widen in shock—
