I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 102

"Playing hard to get?" Sophie asked.

Gavin laughed. "Exactly. In the end, he was the one who caved. During her sophomore year, he was sent to her university for a seminar, and he reached out to her. When he saw a guy waiting for her outside her dorm, he turned pale with jealousy. He still tried to play the strict teacher, lecturing her about the importance of focusing on her studies without distractions."

"So she told him, 'If you become my boyfriend, those guys will stop bothering me.' And just like that, he was trapped."

Sophie couldn't help but laugh. "Your mom sounds amazing."

"She is. So you don't need to worry—she's definitely going to love you. And my dad will just agree with whatever she says."

Sophie looked at him, realizing he had seen right through her anxieties. She had been terrified that his parents would reject her once they learned she was born out of wedlock.

If her father really had died in a car crash like Sarah always claimed, explaining her family history would be so much easier.

But now, if the Gilmores asked about her background, how was she supposed to bring up her real father?

Over the following week, Sophie worked late almost every night, often staying until eight or nine. Just like before, if Gavin finished his shift early, he would grab a coffee at the café downstairs, scrolling through international industry news while waiting for her.

The temperature plummeted on Friday evening. When Sophie finally walked out of the building, she was clutching her blazer tightly around herself, her face completely drained of color.

The moment she slid into the passenger seat, she mumbled, "Take me to a pharmacy."

"Are you okay?" Gavin looked at her, noticing her pale, bloodless lips.

"It's just... you know..." Sophie hesitated, feeling an awkward flush creep up her neck. Under his quiet gaze, she finally forced it out. "It's my time of the month."

"Cramps? Is it always this bad?"

Seeing how naturally he handled the topic, Sophie felt a flash of irritation. "You sure know a lot about this. Lots of experience?"

She knew she shouldn't snap at him, but when she was in pain, it was all too easy to take her frustration out on the person closest to her.

Gavin ignored the sarcasm. He reached over and took her hands, frowning at how ice-cold they were.
