I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 117

Sophie and Gavin returned from walking Rosemary in the park. His parents still weren't home.

"Are Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore always this busy on holidays?" Sophie whispered.

"Seniors have extra cram sessions, so Dad has to be there since he runs the academic programs," Gavin explained with a smile. "Mom had a college reunion. Yeah, they're always swamped."

Rosemary was in excellent spirits. It was rare to have her grandson home, and Sophie was incredibly sweet, happily listening to her stories without a hint of impatience.

She made Gavin pull out the family photo albums to show Sophie.

"Gavin was an absolute terror as a kid. Always playing war games. That scar on his hairline is from a rock fight. A kid nailed him, and there was blood everywhere. He needed three stitches. We were terrified he'd scrambled his brains."

Rosemary brushed Gavin's bangs aside to reveal the faint, jagged line.

It was the first time Sophie had noticed it. Gavin flushed under her gaze. "I was in first or second grade. I watched way too many action movies. We got into a brawl, the kid lost his temper, and grabbed a rock."

"And the idiot came home claiming he tripped," Rosemary said, her thumb gently tracing the old scar.

"You need to start taking better care of yourself. When you get hurt, it's not just your parents and me whose hearts break anymore."

Turning the page, Rosemary pointed to a woman with a bob haircut wearing a floral shirt. "This was me back in the day. And this is Gavin's mother in middle school. She was a total tomboy, terrible grades. Thank God she met Graham."

Rosemary criticized the girl in the white button-down, but her eyes shone with absolute adoration.

Her finger brushed the man standing next to Gillian, and she paused. "This was Gavin's grandfather. It's a shame he passed away so young. He never got to meet Gavin."

Noticing the shift in her mood, Gavin smoothly changed the subject, coaxing a smile out of her before escorting her to her room for a nap.

When he returned, Sophie was still flipping through the albums. The chronological progression showed Gavin growing from a reckless boy into a man, while Rosemary's hair slowly turned silver.

"Is she okay?" Sophie asked softly.

After just a day and a half, Sophie had deeply bonded with Rosemary. She was sharp, loving, and radiated warmth.
