I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 128

Gavin sat by quietly, listening with a warm smile. Gabe was leaning against his mother, occasionally peeking out from behind her, so Gavin started playing peek-a-boo with him.

Just as the conversation hit its peak, Caleb walked out to announce that dinner was ready.

In the center of the table sat a massive porcelain bowl filled with spicy fish stew. The tender, snow-white fish floated in a vibrant red broth, generously topped with dried chilies and fresh cilantro. The mouthwatering aroma of spices filled the room.

Mrs. Finch placed a large piece of fish into Sophie's bowl. "I remember this used to be your absolute favorite when your Mr. Lancaster made it. Try it and tell me if it still tastes the same."

"It's amazing," Sophie nodded enthusiastically.

"The most annoying part was that she could eat so much spicy food and never break out."

Mia laughed, instinctively touching a fresh blemish on her forehead. Caleb thoughtfully refilled her glass with iced fruit tea.

Sophie chuckled at the sight and winked at Mia.

She had always known that Mia would end up with a man just as considerate and warm as her father.

Looking closely, Caleb and Mia even looked a bit alike. They both had round faces, soft features, and eyes that naturally crinkled when they smiled.

Mrs. Finch kept urging Gavin to eat more, telling him to make himself at home.

By the end of the meal, Gabe had fully warmed up to Sophie and Gavin. Instead of clinging to his mother, he spent the after-dinner hours dragging Gavin around the living room to play.

Gavin opened a package of cheese sticks he had brought and handed them to Gabe. The toddler generously passed them out to everyone in the room. When he handed one to Sophie, she smiled and thanked him. Out of nowhere, Gabe leaned in and planted a wet kiss on her cheek.

Everyone froze for a second before Mia and Caleb burst out laughing.

"Do you think Auntie Sophie is pretty?"

Gabe blushed furiously and nodded.

"Look at this kid. He's not even four yet and he already knows how to charm the pretty ladies!"

The room erupted into laughter again as Gabe buried his face into Mia's side in embarrassment.

When it was time to leave, the Lancaster family walked Sophie and Gavin all the way downstairs.

"You and Mia were practically sisters back then. I always hoped you two would stay close. Sophie, you once told me you wanted to be my daughter, and I've honestly always seen you as one. Please, come visit us more often."

"I will. I promise. Please go back inside, it's getting cold," Sophie said, maintaining a bright smile even as tears shimmered in her eyes.

"You have to invite me to your wedding!" Mia pointed at the toddler in Caleb's arms. "My son is going to be your ring bearer."

"Absolutely," Sophie promised, waving goodbye as Gavin pulled the car away.

Once they were on the road, Gavin unscrewed a bottle of iced fruit tea and handed it to her.
