I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 170

"He hasn't woken up yet."

"Damn it," Kaine cursed under his breath. "His daughter's little shove put four people in the hospital, and he actually thinks he can just buy his way out of it."

Harold hadn't approached her about it yet, but if he was already pressuring Kaine, he was definitely going to make the same demand of her.

Thinking of Luke lying unconscious, Sophie bit her lip so hard she nearly drew blood. Even now, all Harold cared about was covering for Eileen.

Sophie bid farewell to Kaine and Lydia, heading back to Luke's room.

Right outside the door, she ran directly into Harold, who was just leaving.

Sophie blocked his path and didn't waste a second. "You went to see Kaine? You're trying to force a settlement?"

Harold looked incredibly awkward. "Sophie, I know it's hard for you to hear this right now, and I was planning to wait until Luke woke up to discuss it with you. Eileen is stuck at the police station. She's been denied bail. I can't just stand by and watch her go to prison."

"But you can stand by and watch Luke lie in a coma?"

Harold fell dead silent.

Sophie let out a hollow laugh. "Last time, when she dumped chemicals on me, you said she was just throwing a tantrum. You said her nature was fundamentally kind. You begged me to understand a father's heart. What about this time? Are you going to tell me her nature is kind again? Ask me to understand you again?"

Harold's face crumpled in agony, his voice dropping to a plea. "Sophie, she is your biological sister. I can't just let the two of you destroy each other like this."

"Have you ever met sisters who actively want each other dead? If I were the one in a coma right now, she'd be popping champagne."

"Sophie, how can you think like that?"

Harold looked utterly devastated. Having his two daughters at each other's throats made him the one suffering the most.

"This time, I'm making sure she goes to prison. She is long overdue to pay the price for everything she's done."

Without giving Harold another glance, Sophie turned and knocked on Luke's door.

The door opened almost instantly. Eleanor stood in the doorway, ushering her in. She cast a cold glance at Harold's retreating back before shutting the door.

"I heard everything you said to Harold. I stand entirely with you."

Sophie's eyes immediately reddened. "Eleanor, I owe you an apology. After all, Luke only ended up like this because he saved me."

Eleanor remained silent. What good was an apology? If anyone was to blame, it was Eileen Harper.

"Eleanor, these are Luke's belongings. The nurse asked me to hold onto them before he went into surgery."

Sophie handed the ring over.

Eleanor stared at the ring for a long time. Then, she reached out, grabbed Sophie's hand, and pressed the ring back into her palm.

"He meant to give this to you, didn't he?"
