I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 200

Sophie had spent a long time trying to talk her out of it, but Gwen was clearly resolute.

This was a decision only Gwen and Jason could make; it wasn't something outsiders could meddle in.

"We should get going."

Sophie said her goodbyes, leaving Gwen and Jason alone in the apartment.

After helping her father lie down in his bedroom, Gwen immediately started pushing Jason to leave.

"At least let me change my clothes first," Jason chuckled.

Gwen suddenly realized Jason was still wearing the damp tank top and shorts he had used while bathing her father.

"I'll just leave this set here so it's easier to change next time. I'll bring a few more outfits over later."

Instead of heading to the bathroom to change, Jason walked straight into Gwen's bedroom.

Seeing that Gwen hadn't followed him, Jason stepped back out, grabbed her by the arm, and pulled her inside with him.

He shut the door, wrapped Gwen in his arms, and whispered right next to her ear, "Your dad is right outside. I know my boundaries; I'm not going to try anything."

If this had been the old days, Gwen would have already thrown herself into his arms. But now, she kept her arms firmly wedged between them, maintaining a physical barrier.

"The caregiver is starting tomorrow. You really don't need to worry about things here. Hurry up and go home to take care of Mia."

"What exactly is going on? You've been constantly trying to get rid of me these past two days."

Jason took her hand and pressed it flat against his chest.

"Jason, you really don't have to do this. Raising a kid on your own is already hard enough. There's zero reason for you to willingly add more chaos to your life."

"I don't consider this chaos. Everyone gets old eventually. When I'm old and paralyzed, are you going to treat me like a burden too?"

"Don't talk nonsense." Gwen punched him lightly in the chest, suddenly furious. "You... why are you cursing yourself like that? Never say something like that again."

Jason pulled her tight into his embrace. So tight she could barely breathe.

"Jason, the kind of romance I want to give you isn't supposed to look like this. At the very least, I shouldn't be dragging you down."
