I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 211

"Why?" Gwen couldn't wrap her head around it either.

She had heard the story from Mia, who babbled about a 'grandpa' showing up and begging 'Grandma Sarah' to cook him a birthday meal, only to get shoved out the door.

Mia had probably never seen Sarah genuinely angry before. That night, she clung to Gwen, whispering wide-eyed, "That grandpa was so sad. He was begging Grandma Sarah, but she still wouldn't open the door."

Driven by pure, unfiltered gossip, Gwen had coaxed Mia into giving a full reenactment of the event.

"I opened the door, and the second Grandma Sarah saw him, she got super mad and pushed him outside."

"What did the grandpa say?"

Gwen was dying to know what lines a billionaire would drop when trying to win his ex back.

"'Sarah, I'm so tired, just let me sit for a minute.'"

"'Sarah, it's my birthday today. I really want to eat your cooking. Please make me a plate of food.'"

"'Sarah, let me in. Please forgive me.'"

Gwen's heart had been pounding just listening to it. If a billionaire begged her for forgiveness, she'd accept the apology in a heartbeat.

Sarah was practically made of iron. Why walk away from that kind of money?

Even if the love was dead, why not fake it, take his credit card, and travel the globe? Just treat the guy like an ATM!

But Gwen didn't have the guts to say any of that to Sarah's face.

Sarah was incredibly gentle, but she carried an aura of quiet dignity that demanded respect. Gwen could joke around with Sophie all day, but she wouldn't dare run her mouth like that in front of Sarah.

Eventually, Gwen hadn't been able to stop herself from asking Sophie: "Is your mom really not going to give that billionaire another chance? I mean, a billionaire! How many times in life does an opportunity like that knock?"

Sophie just shook her head. "My mom's heart was completely shattered. She won't take Harold back, and she has no interest in finding anyone else. She's perfectly happy with her life exactly as it is."

Gwen had mourned the loss of those billions on behalf of both Sophie and Sarah.

"It's horrible to say, but if my mom were alive, I'd probably be pushing her to date a billionaire. Unfortunately, my dad stressed my mom to an early grave."

Gwen knew she'd get a massive side-eye from Sophie for saying that, but she genuinely felt depressed for days, as if she had personally fumbled a hundred million dollars.

Even Jason had noticed. "You aren't planning to go after Harold Harper for his money, are you?"

"Are you kidding? You're worth way more than a hundred million to me. I'm totally satisfied with just you," Gwen immediately pledged her loyalty.
