I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 222

Her gown was breathtaking—a strapless design that flawlessly highlighted her delicate collarbones and the elegant curve of her shoulders.

He had watched Gavin carefully place her into the bridal car before they drove entirely out of his world.

When the ceremony began, he had gently pushed the heavy oak doors of the banquet hall open, just a fraction of an inch. Through the crack, he had watched her walk down the aisle toward Gavin, stand by his side, exchange vows, and kiss him.

Then, he had quietly stepped back into the shadows, retreating to the blistering cold outside.

She had been wearing a pair of diamond earrings today, but they weren't the ones he had bought for her.

He had mailed those to her office a few weeks ago, but she had ruthlessly returned them to sender.

He had brought them with him on this trip, hoping to hand them to her in person, but that door had firmly closed in his face.

A waiter set a fresh cup of coffee on his table, complete with two complimentary butter cookies.

Luke didn't touch them. Instead, he pried open the box of wedding favors. Tucked between the gourmet chocolates were two Mung Bean Shortbreads. Stamped onto one was "Tying the Knot," and on the other, "A Hundred Years of Harmony." The backs were embossed with the traditional double-happiness symbol.

This kind of meticulous detail had to be Sophie's doing; she must have custom-ordered them.

He popped one of the pastries into his mouth, letting it sit on his tongue without chewing, allowing the sweet flavor to slowly dissolve.

Once he drained his cup, he checked his watch. He still had an hour before boarding, and time felt agonizingly slow. Pulling out his laptop, he started sifting through work emails.

"Excuse me, is anyone sitting here?"

Luke glanced up. A woman clutching a laptop was standing by his table. "I have an urgent file to process, and there isn't a single empty seat left. Would you mind?"

He scanned the bustling cafe; every other table was packed with groups of two or three. He shook his head, signaling that the seat was free.

"Oh! It's you. Do you remember me? We sat next to each other on the flight from St. Moritz to San Francisco."

She spun around and tapped her backpack. "My bag fell on your head. I'm really sorry about that."

Luke offered a noncommittal hum, shifting his laptop slightly to give her some space.

The woman set her computer down and started emptying her pockets, placing her phone and keys on the table while she dug for a flash drive.
