I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 235

Watching Sophie's silhouette disappear, Luke Lawrence dragged his suitcase and sat down in the waiting area.

Her flight was only an hour earlier than his, but they were heading in entirely different directions. From now on, their paths would never cross again.

When he first arrived, Luke had entertained the thought of showing up before Sophie said 'I do' to stop the wedding.

But that morning, watching Gavin lift Sophie into the car, seeing her smile so shyly and radiantly, he knew it was over.

If Sophie had just looked up a little, she would have seen him standing by the window. But she never did. Her smiling eyes were focused entirely on Gavin.

In that moment, Luke realized his hopes were impossible. Even if he tried to stop it, Sophie would never leave with him.

He was the man she had discarded, discarded forever.

Luke rested his elbows on his knees and buried his face in his hands.

Time after time, hope ignited, only to be dashed. Time after time, he was filled with expectation, only to return in crushing disappointment.

He finally understood what Sophie must have felt all those years.

Her love for him had been worn away entirely through endless disappointments.

"Sir, are you alright?"

Luke raised his head. A woman was standing next to him—the same woman who had shared a table with him at the cafe earlier.

"I'm fine." Luke wiped his face and sat up straight.

"I thought you were sick. You looked like you were in a lot of pain. I have some stomach medicine in my bag, do you need it?"

"Thank you, but I'm fine."

Luke tilted his head back slightly. It wasn't his stomach that hurt; it was his heart. And there was no cure for it.

"I'm Zoe Zeller. I gave you my business card earlier. May I ask your name?"

"My last name is Lawrence."

Zoe frowned. It was the first time she had met someone who introduced themselves without giving their full name.

"Here, if you really like it, you can have it. Thanks for letting me have the table earlier."

Zoe pulled out her keys. A small bunny keychain dangled in front of Luke's eyes, its rhinestones glittering sharply in the light, making his eyes ache.

"Thank you. I'll buy it from you." Luke pulled a high-denomination bill from his wallet and offered it to her.

"It was a freebie, it's not worth anything."

Zoe smiled, gently pushing his hand away. She unhooked the bunny charm from her keys and placed it in Luke's palm.

"I felt terrible for days after I hit you on the head last time. I was worried you'd have lasting complications. I'm just glad you're okay."

"About that time... thank you."
