Every morning, he would walk over, and after dinner, he would sit for a while before walking back alone.
There were plenty of empty guest rooms in the estate for Harold to stay, but since Sarah never offered, no one else dared to speak up.
Whether to accept Harold or not was entirely up to her mother.
On this, Sophie stood by Sarah unconditionally; whatever decision her mother made, she would support it.
During a late winter family dinner, Sophie and Gwen's families gathered for a meal, but halfway through, Gwen suddenly covered her mouth and rushed out, with Jason immediately following close behind.
Noticing something was off, Sophie told Gavin to hold the baby while she went to check on them.
Gwen was in the restroom, and Jason was pacing anxiously by the door.
"Is she expecting?" Sophie asked Jason.
Seeing him nod, Sophie smiled. "Congratulations. I'll go in and check on her; you go back and watch Mia."
Sophie pushed open the restroom door to find Gwen rinsing her mouth, and from the look on Sophie's face, Gwen knew the secret was out.
Gwen rubbed her chest and nodded. "How did you survive this? This little terror is making me miserable. From the holidays until now, I haven't had a single proper meal. I used to love steak, but now the mere smell of meat makes me gag."
"Your tastes will definitely change. Back then, I craved things I used to hate."
Sophie handed Gwen a paper towel and helped her walk back.
"Does Mia know?"
Gwen laughed. "Kids these days are way too smart. The second time I had morning sickness, she asked if I was pregnant—she learned it from TV. We were planning to wait three months before telling you all, but my morning sickness is so bad everyone guessed it."
"Mia must be thrilled. She loves Ethan so much, she'll definitely adore the new baby."
Gwen nodded. "Before Jason and I even started trying, we talked to Mia and promised her that this baby would never diminish our love for her. Jason's been spending extra time with her lately, too. I'm just worried that once Melanie finds out, she'll start planting toxic ideas in Mia's head again."
"Her meddling won't work anymore. Mia is ten; she knows who genuinely treats her well. Kids see with their eyes and feel with their hearts."
After finishing their private chat, the two women returned to the dining room.
Mia stood up and asked, "Gwen, is the little baby acting up again?"
