I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 260

"I understand. Mia is at a sensitive age, and it's a good thing she was willing to voice her feelings. We'll pay more attention to it from now on."

"I'm going to have a talk with her mother."

Jason knew that if Melanie kept deliberately planting doubts, Mia would inevitably end up overthinking again.

"Just the two of you?" Gwen's jealousy flared up instantly.

"You're pregnant, and seeing her will just put you in a bad mood."

Seeing Gwen still pouting, Jason coaxed her, "It's strictly about Mia. Aside from our daughter, she and I have absolutely nothing to talk about."

"I know I shouldn't interfere with how you both raise Mia, but her trying to dictate my pregnancy is crossing a line, isn't it?"

"I'm meeting her precisely to remind her to stay in her lane." Jason pinched Gwen's cheek. "You really don't need to be jealous of someone so irrelevant."

Despite his reassurances, Gwen still felt annoyed. What gave his uninvited ex-wife the right to demand reports about her pregnancy?

Melanie arrived at the address Jason had sent her, immediately rolling her eyes as she sat down. "This is so far. It took me forty minutes to get here. Couldn't you have picked a place closer to my house?"

"I'm busy, and I still have to go back and spend time with my wife and kids. Since you have so much free time to stick your nose into my family's business, wasting a little time on the road shouldn't bother you."

Melanie choked on her anger. "Who said I have free time?"

"If you aren't, then why are you stirring up so much drama? You know Mia is going through a sensitive phase right now. As her mother, can't you tell the difference between words that help her and words that damage her mental health?"

"If you care so much about Mia, why are you having another kid?" Melanie snapped back.

"Mia is incredibly important to me, but I have my own life too. The two aren't mutually exclusive. If you stopped fanning the flames and trying to drive a wedge between us, Mia would be a lot happier. Stop projecting your toxic mindset onto Mia, and don't make the kid cynical about the adult world."

"You're the toxic ones!" Melanie fumed.

"Melanie, the only thing we are here to discuss today is how to properly guide Mia. If Mia is miserable, neither of us will have peace. Don't let your petty grievances get in the way. I don't expect you to sing my praises to her, but stop maliciously manipulating her. By the same token, I'll never speak ill of you in front of Mia either. Let's try to provide her with a calm, happy environment to grow up in."

"Save your pretty speeches. I'll be keeping an eye on you two. If you dare mistreat Mia, I'll sue you."

Melanie crossed her arms, glaring at Jason. He had never been this articulate before. In their past arguments, he had always just kept a rigid face and responded with silence.

"Are you suffering from a persecution complex? She is my daughter. I will protect her, and I will absolutely never allow anyone to do anything that harms her."
