I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 267

Sophie's due date was in mid-October. Gavin's parents had originally planned to visit during the Columbus Day Weekend, but they ultimately couldn't make the trip. Gavin's grandmother, Rosemary, was in her eighties, and since autumn started, she had been suffering from shortness of breath and frequent dizzy spells.

Given her condition, they were terrified of a medical emergency during a long-haul flight and couldn't bear the thought of leaving her solely in the care of a nurse. All they could do was call Sarah to apologize.

"We're so sorry to put this all on you. We were supposed to be there to help Sophie with the baby. The moment her grandmother is stable, we'll fly right over."

"Please, don't say that. Her health comes first. I'm here, and Sophie's father is here too. You have absolutely nothing to worry about."

Gillian thanked her profusely before finally hanging up the phone.

Seeing the worry etched across Gavin's face, Sophie asked, "Do you want to fly back and see her?"

Gavin thought about it but shook his head. "My parents called specifically to tell me to stay here and take care of you. If I fly back now, they'll just be stressing out about you instead. We can just video call Grandma every day."

Sophie rested her head on Gavin's shoulder, taking his hand to comfort him. "She's going to bounce back soon."

She knew the words sounded hollow, but she hoped the warmth of her hand would offer him some anchor.

Knowing Gavin's parents couldn't make it, Harold decided to extend his stay through the holidays to be there for his daughter. With the due date rapidly approaching, Sarah needed to focus all her energy on Sophie, so Harold stepped up to take care of his grandson.

Sophie thought she was an absolute pro by now, but this baby had other plans, catching her completely off guard.

Around five in the morning, Sophie woke up needing to use the bathroom. In her late third trimester, getting up two or three times a night was the norm, but this time, her water broke.

"Gavin..."

Gavin, who had been hovering near the bathroom door, threw it open immediately. "Are you having contractions?" he asked, his voice tight with panic.

"My water just broke. I think the baby's coming," Sophie grimaced.

She was still a week away from her due date. Who would have guessed that one kid would be so incredibly patient, and the other in such a rush?

"Don't panic. We're going to the hospital right now."

Gavin helped Sophie back to the bedroom, hurriedly got her dressed, and scooped her up to carry her downstairs.

Sarah, who always woke up early, bolted out of her room at the sound of heavy footsteps on the stairs. Seeing Gavin carrying Sophie, she instantly knew what was happening.

"Is it time?"

"Mom, call Dad and tell him to come over to watch Ethan. We're heading to the hospital."

Harold got the call and rushed over immediately.

"Ethan is still asleep. Please keep a close eye on him."

Sarah rattled off instructions as she hastily shoved her shoes on. She was clutching the hospital bag but suddenly lost her balance. Harold shot his arm out to steady her.

"Take a deep breath. If you panic, Sophie's going to panic."
