I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 44

"Let go of me."

Sophie yanked her arm, but his grip was ironclad. Every attempted movement sent spikes of searing pain through her wrist.

"All those years, I never spent a single Christmas with you. Just one last time..."

Luke's voice carried a desperate, pleading edge.

Her fury exploded. She cursed him violently in her mind. How dare he play the tragic, devoted lover now?

Before he could finish his pathetic speech, she grabbed a full glass of iced wine and threw it squarely into his lap. The shock of it made him flinch, and she finally wrenched her hand free.

She retreated several feet, crossing her arms in mocking amusement while dripping with faux sincerity. "Oh, Mr. Lawrence, I am so sorry. I'll call someone in to help you clean that up."

Sophie stormed out, nearly colliding with Gwen, who had been hovering by the door.

Gwen caught a glimpse of a thoroughly drenched Luke and instantly lost whatever courage she had left to re-enter the room.

"Girl, what the hell did you just do? Can't you just bite your tongue for the sake of the bonus?"

Gwen pleaded in a harsh whisper as she chased after her.

Sophie genuinely sought out the floor manager and handpicked two incredibly seductive hostesses to send to the VIP lounge.

The two women sashayed in, immediately flanking Luke and pressing against him.

"Get out," Luke snarled, his face thunderous.

"Who ruined your mood, handsome? Come on, have a drink. Let us cool you down."

The woman on the left raised a glass to his lips. He violently shoved her arm away, sloshing alcohol all over his pristine shirt.

The one on his right immediately grabbed some napkins, sliding her other hand brazenly onto his thigh. "Oh my, you're soaked down here too."

"Get the hell out!" Luke roared, his expression downright murderous.

The women exchanged a startled look, then grabbed their bags and practically sprinted from the room.

Sophie strolled back in, staring at him with wide, innocent eyes. "Still not satisfied, Mr. Lawrence? You're making it very difficult for us to do our jobs."

Luke stared at her without a word. His predatory gaze was darker and more terrifying than she had ever seen it.

Gwen stepped in front of her. "Mr. Lawrence, I am so sorry. Sophie had a bit too much to drink, her hand slipped. Let me drink to apologize."

Gwen threw back her glass. Luke wordlessly downed his own.

Sophie topped off her own glass. "Apologies, Mr. Lawrence. We clearly haven't been good hosts. Can we arrange some alternative entertainment for the rest of your evening?"

Luke quietly drank the glass she had poured, then stood up without uttering a single syllable.

Gwen grabbed Sophie's arm, yanking her out of the room to trail behind him.

Inside the claustrophobic elevator, Gwen desperately racked her brain for a joke to cut the tension, but one look at his glacial expression choked the words right out of her throat.
