I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 93

Luke had been in the hospital for five days, and the doctor cleared him for discharge. He requested another full-body checkup.

"You're young, why are you so eager to stay in the hospital? You think this is a resort? Beds are in high demand; if you're recovered, hurry up and discharge."

The doctor's words were blunt, but the corner of his mouth twitched upward.

The massive scene in the hospital room two days ago had already become the top gossip of the inpatient ward. A man being driven into the hospital by a forced marriage was enough drama to keep everyone entertained for days.

On the day of his discharge, Arthur ordered Luke to accompany him to the Harper residence.

"Mr. Harper wants Eileen to go back to France, but she's refusing. Go help Mrs. Harper escort her there. You have to coax a woman; fighting fire with fire won't work. No matter what, just get her emotions stabilized first."

"If I go, she'll only get more unstable," Luke said with a cold expression.

"Why are you so damn stubborn? Mr. Harper has favored you since you were a kid. As long as you marry Eileen, Apex Holdings will belong to you. You two grew up together, it's a perfect match. Even if you don't have romantic feelings for her, just marry her and put her on a pedestal. If you want to keep a mistress on the side, just hide it from her."

"Dad..."

Luke stopped in his tracks, glaring at his father in deep dissatisfaction.

Arthur knew his words sounded despicable, especially to his own son, but this was the most pragmatic solution. There were plenty of beautiful women in the world, but the opportunity to inherit an empire was impossibly rare.

Arthur had been incredibly anxious these past few days. Harold had hinted that he no longer wanted to force this doomed relationship and asked for his opinion.

He had no choice but to scold Luke relentlessly in front of Harold, pushing all the blame onto his own son.

"Things have gotten so bad between you two that I don't even have the face to look Mr. Harper in the eye."

If Eileen did not want his son, that was one thing. But if his son was the one abandoning Eileen, how could he possibly have the nerve to keep working at Apex Holdings?

Before Luke even headed over, Harold came looking for him instead.

The moment Arthur saw him, he stepped forward to apologize. "I was just reprimanding this ungrateful brat. He really thinks he's fully independent now. If I had known, I would've dragged him back home the moment he graduated."

Harold waved his hand dismissively. "Forget it. Eileen is the same way, she won't listen to reason. If the two of them are just going to be miserable for the rest of their lives, it's better to break things off early."

"Mr. Harper."

Luke stood up straight. Towards Harold, he still harbored a deep sense of gratitude.

Harold cast a glance at Luke, forcing down the simmering anger in his chest. "Come with me to talk some sense into Eileen. Her going to France is best for both of you."

He could not help but feel resentful. So many people were practically fighting for a connection to his family, so many men would kill to marry into the Harper household, yet his stubborn daughter just had to fall for someone who didn't appreciate it at all.

No matter how capable Luke was, if he wasn't his son-in-law, it meant absolutely nothing.

Luke's appearance did not stabilize Eileen's emotions; instead, it made her even more unhinged.

"I'm not leaving! I'm not going anywhere! The invitations are already sent. All our friends and relatives know I'm marrying you. They know I've wanted to marry you since I was a little girl. You want people to treat me like a joke?!"
