Chapter 1
After eight years together, when my asthma attack hit, Kieran was in the center of the ballroom, intimate dancing with his secretary
Even as I foamed at the mouth and slipped into unconsciousness, the man kept his arms wrapped around her, whispering sweet nothings in her ear, laughing like he didn’t have a care in the world.
Until the end of the banquet, he drove me home. On the drive home, I found a diamond ring in the glove compartment.
Before I could even open my mouth, Kieran frowned and snatched it away, his voice ice-cold:
“It’s not for you.”
Hearing that, I just calmly nodded, then pointed to the bridal boutique up ahead. “Pull over, would you?”
The custom wedding dress I’d ordered-yeah, it was time to return that.
The second I stepped into the bridal shop, Kieran was out of the car, chasing after me. He threw a woman’s coat right at my face.
“Chloe, fix that scatter-brained habit of yours.”
Kieran was a neat freak-never let me leave so much as a hair tie in his car.
I glanced down at the coat on the floor and said flatly: “That’s not mine.”
Hearing that, his expression softened immediately. Without any hesitation, he bent down to pick up the coat, folding it carefully.
I knew whose it was-Ivy’s.
Every time Ivy “accidentally” left something behind, it used to trigger these explosive fights between Kieran and me.
But not this time. I didn’t complain or say a word.
I just turned around and gave the sales associate my phone number.
The woman beamed at us. “Perfect timing! Your custom wedding dress and tuxedo are ready for fitting.”
Before I could decline the fitting, the man who’d just snapped at me was already stalking into the changing room, his face like thunder.
Ten minutes later.
I stood before Kieran in my wedding dress.
He barely glanced at me before curling his lip in disgust. “Tacky as hell.”
I didn’t argue. Instead, I asked the sales associate to take my picture.
Hearing that, Kieran looked annoyed, like he was about to pull me in for a couple’s shot, when his phone rang-Ivy’s special ringtone.
The girl was sobbing to him about her missing coat-her absolute favorite one. If some kind soul could return it to her right away, she’d be theirs forever, till death do them part, she promised.
Chapter 1
Hearing that, his expression changed instantly. After hanging up, Kieran didn’t even bother changing his tux-he just bolted out of there
Listening to his car speed away, I picked up a pair of scissors and cut the wedding dress to shreds without hesitation.
1:30 AM.
I was packing up my stuff when I got a text from Kieran:
[Out drinking]
Eight years together, and the man rarely bothered to tell me where he was.
I looked down at my cleaning gloves and didn’t reply.
After finishing cleaning, I took a hot shower and crashed.
When Kieran came home the next day, he caught me taking out the trash.
He gave me this weird look. “Is your phone broken?”
When I shook my head, he instinctively frowned.
I knew why he was asking. Usually when he stayed out late, I’d blow up his phone with texts and calls.
But last night? Radio silence.
As I headed for the door, Kieran called out again:
“Chloe, where are all our photos from the wall?”
I glanced down at the trash bag, about to tell him the truth, when his phone buzzed.
He shouldered past me, pressing the voice message button as he walked inside:
“Don’t worry, sweetheart. I’ll bring it over as soon as it’s ready.”
