Chapter 5
Shortly after Carlos left, I finished my last bottle of glucose.
Walking under the moonlight with Scarlett, I suddenly remembered the day I first met Carlos.
It was another particularly bleak night, with the evening breeze carrying a chill.
Carlos’ childhood sweetheart went abroad to pursue love, leaving him behind in the country.
It’s said that the person Annie Blakely liked studied German, and wouldn’t graduate until five years later.
Annie Blakely followed his steps overseas, leaving Carlos Kashton all alone.
Carlos had been secretly in love with Annie for many years without success, spending his days drinking with his brothers at bars to numb himself.
That day, he drank too much and stumbled into me, who was working part-time as a glass washer at the bar.
He had drunk a bit too much, and as he lowered his head, he vomited all over me.
“Sorry about that, here’s my business card. Remember to come to me for reimbursement for your clothes.”
Seeing that he couldn’t stand up, I helped him to the staff break room and stayed with him the whole night.
The reason was simple-he was quite handsome.
Sharp eyebrows, starry eyes, and even the bar’s dim lights couldn’t dull his attractiveness.
I was worried he might choke from acid reflux, so I stayed by his side all night.
When he finally opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was me, covered in filth.
“Excuse me… What’s your name?”
I looked at him and smiled.
“Grace Hope, Arden is my surname, Jane is my given name.”
That was the first thing I said to him.
I helped him move on from Annie Blakely’s shadow, and we fell in love, even got married and had children.
On the day I gave birth, he knelt by my bed, his eyes a little red.
He told me our son was healthy, and he had already chosen a name for him-Jack, which meant the stars that long for the sky.
He said, the moon by the pillow was his beloved, and the son was the star beside the moon.
I once thought that Carlos Kashton and I were a perfect match.
Even though I was just an ordinary person, unworthy of his dazzling family background.
As long as he loved me enough, nothing else mattered.

Chapter 5
Until Annie Blakely returned to the country, found out my son’s name, and came to challenge me, I realized what my place truly was in Carlos heart.
“Jack Kashton… Hahaha. Jack, do you know why he’s named Jack? It’s because my ex-boyfriend’s name was Jack!”
It was then that I understood-Carlos had always seen me as Annie Blakely’s substitute.
Even my son, who was difficult to deliver, was just a tool for him to project his love.
I had thought that once we got divorced, my relationship with Carlos would end there.
But I didn’t expect that, after just a few quiet days, Scarlett excitedly came to find me.
Her phone was looping a video.
The angle of the video was perfect, capturing the expressions of everyone in the room from nearly every angle.
It was Carlos Kashton’s proposal scene.
The grand venue was filled with Annie Blakely’s favorite red roses, very romantic.
Carlos held a bouquet of roses, and at the top was a dazzling pink diamond.
Behind him stood Jack Kashton, dressed in a custom suit.
“Annie, I love you. Will you marry me?”
