Imprisoned While Pregnant, She's Back for Payback novel Chapter 558

He quickly changed the subject, swallowing the bitterness in his chest.

"Uncle Jackson, do you remember that guy Nicholas? Where is he now in Zone B?"

"What do you want to know that for?"

"Oh, come on! It's just a question. Did you forget how you promised my mom you'd look after me?"

"Look after you? All day long you're asking for this and that—what do you think I am, a wishing machine?" The voice on the other end belonged to a middle-aged man, gruff and full of irritation.

Duncan shrank his neck, sneaking a nervous glance at Steven. When he saw that Steven's brow twitched and his eyes drifted toward his left backside, he shivered on the spot.

"Uncle Jackson!" He yelped, panicked.

"All right, all right! Just come to my office in Zone B," Jackson Madron finally said, sounding defeated.

The tension eased from Duncan's face as he let out a long sigh of relief. He looked at Steven with a hopeful grin. "Hehe, that worked, right? Can I go now?"

For the first time, Steven's expression softened. A faint smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.

Duncan's heart leapt with joy, then dropped just as fast.

"I'm new here," Steven said calmly. "I don't know where that office is. You'll take me there."

Duncan's face crumpled. He was about to cry when Steven grabbed him by the collar and started dragging him inside.

Zone B was the busiest area in the entire factory. People moved back and forth nonstop, like a river of workers that never ended. Duncan and Steven purposely chose the most crowded path, slipping in with the flow. No one paid attention to the two of them—they looked just as plain and ordinary as everyone else.

In truth, Duncan was recognizable around the site. But Steven had one hand firmly pressed on the back of his neck, forcing him to keep his head down.

Moving suspiciously, they finally reached the office Jackson had mentioned.

Knock, knock!

"Come in."

Steven opened the door and stepped inside. The moment he entered, he locked it behind him.

Jackson, who had been sitting at a desk, puffing away at a cigarette, froze. He looked up to see a cold, unfamiliar face staring right back at him. A bad feeling hit his gut.

"Who are you?!" He barked.

Then he noticed Steven's hand was clamped over his nephew's nose.

"Duncan!" Jackson shouted, springing to his feet so fast his chair slammed into the wall with a loud bang.

The moment the grip around his neck loosened, Duncan's eyes flew open. He sprang toward Jackson, sobbing as he clung to his arm.

"Uncle Jackson, you've got to save me! He broke into the room you gave me—my single dorm room—and beat me up! Look at my butt!"

Before anyone could stop him, he started to pull down his pants to show the proof. Jackson's brow twitched in horror. He smacked Duncan's hand away so fast it made a sharp slap.

"Enough, you embarrassing fool!"

He rubbed his forehead in frustration, completely speechless. Then, forcing a polite smile, he stood and poured a cup of tea for Steven.

"I'm not sure what brings you here," Jackson said carefully, "but surely you didn't come all this way just to ask about Nicholas?"

Steven's calm voice carried an unmistakable authority.

"That's not something I can disclose. But regarding Nicholas—tell me everything you know."

Steven's tone left no room for argument.

Jackson stared at the man before him—calm, composed, and sharp-eyed. There was something in that face, a quiet authority that made him tense up without even realizing it. His gaze flicked toward the locked door.

After all, he wasn't just another worker. He was a foreman in this factory, someone who held access to confidential information. He couldn't just spill everything to a stranger, no matter how intimidating that stranger looked.
