Chapter 10
Maddox
So many hours had gone by since I had gone down on Harper, but I could still taste her on my tongue.
Even after I had her ride me in the middle of the night, I had woken up hard as hell that morning when she was fast asleep in my arms, but she needed the rest so I left for my morning fitness routine.
I expected her to have her breakfast and leave, but when she asked about that room with grill doors and had a genuine interest in my art and how it all began, she was asking too much. I had to remind her why she was with me to have a good time so she could forget about Grayson.
–
I finished up with the call so I could finally fuck her in the gym, but Tiffany ruined it. I didn’t know much about Anna, just enough to know that my sister crossed the line.
Even though I ended up wanting Harper just as much as I did during the night, especially when she looked like she was ready to surrender to me, I wasn’t going to make her moan my name again when she was hurting like that.
So I played it cool and took her home, even gripping the steering wheel tightly to stop myself from touching her.
But the second we arrived at her place and she stood before me, I yanked her closer by the waist. Her breath hitched and fuck, that sound. Her hands awkwardly rested on my chest as she looked up at me, flustered.
“What are you doing?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
I brushed my knuckles against her cheek. I just needed her to feel it.
“I should get going now, but you better keep one thing in mind.”
“Which is?”
My gaze dropped to her lips then back to her eyes. “We’re still on for round two.”
She pressed her lips together, furrowing her eyebrows while pulling on my shirt. I couldn’t tell if she did that because she was thinking about the slap, or the fact that I chose to bring her home when I made my intentions to fuck her in the gym clear.
“Hey, watch the shirt,” I said as I dropped my arms from her waist. “It costs more than this house you live in.”
She dropped her hands from my shirt in disbelief. “You don’t even know how much I pay for it each month.”
“That wouldn’t make any difference.”
She scoffed, turning around and making her way to the front door, but paused.
“What is it?”
She glanced at her feet. “These flip flops don’t even fit me but I wore them anyway along with your clothes, but why did I leave my heels at your place?”
I smirked, getting closer so I could lower my voice. “I’m glad you left them. They’ll always be a reminder of what your legs looked like on my shoulders.”
She blinked rapidly, then composed herself.
“Thanks.” Her voice was soft.
“For what?”
“For making sure my car was brought here and not being a complete ass after what happened with Tiffany.”
That caught me off guard and I chose not to comment on it. “I might change my mind and decide to go back with the clothes you have on. You better go inside before I take them off-”
“Aaand he’s back,” she said quietly as she unlocked the door.
My clothes were a little too big for her, but they still looked good on her. Maybe it was because she wore them with so much confidence, or just the fact they belonged to me.
I waited until she was inside before getting in my car.
While I was on my way to meet Grayson, I felt I owed Uncle Sebastian an explanation, so I gave him a call.
“Hmm,” he said as soon as he picked up. “I wonder if truly, work was so important that you chose to miss out on the wedding reception.”
“Hey, Uncle.”
“I’m listening.” He sounded serious at that moment, expecting a detailed explanation.
“It had nothing to do with work, but long story short-”
“Nope! I want the full version. Do you know how hard it was for me to cover for you? No one believed that you didn’t pick up my calls, especially your father. I had to do some acting to make it work.”
I chuckled. “You’re the best.”
“Tell me something I don’t know! Now, why weren’t you there?”
“Someone needed my help.”
“Who? What help?”
He had raised me from the time I was nine years old until I was fifteen and he had always been one to ask so many questions as long as he wasn’t satisfied.
I sighed loudly. “It was this girl-”
“I should have guessed it, but man, she must have been so special that you chose to miss out on the wedding reception.”
“It’s not that she was special. The situation was just…different.”
I huffed while shaking my head. He just wouldn’t let it go, so I told him about Harper but left out a lot of the details and the part about Grayson.
Grayson was parked outside one of his luxurious restaurants, but when I parked mine a few cars away from his, I leaned against it. He was the one who wanted to talk to me in person and the only way we were doing it was if he followed me right where I was. I sent him that text and watched him slam his car door loudly a few seconds later.
He firmly shook his head, balling his hands into fists. “You’re lying! She’d never do that, not the Harper I know.”
I lightly shook my head. “It wouldn’t be the first time.”
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”
“It’s nothing. Aren’t you a little too upset over someone who isn’t your wife?” I asked, looking at how red his face had become.
“I’m just looking out for my best friend. She needs protection from guys like you.”
“Don’t worry about protection.” I lowered my voice just for emphasis. “Harper and I had more than enough of that.”
He chuckled bitterly, as if disgusted after understanding exactly what I meant.
“How about you just focus on Kate, Juliet, Clara-”
“Her name is Claire,” I corrected him.
“It doesn’t matter. Just keep Harper out of your dirty little games.”
I tilted my head a little. “What if she’s the one who won’t be able to stay away from me because she loves the way I make her feel?”
He clenched his jaw, pausing for a moment before responding. “She wouldn’t do such a thing. It’s a good thing you won’t be around for two weeks and when you return, keep your distance.”
“I’d love to see you talk like this while my sister is around. We both know you’ve always worshipped her like a goddess while-”
I stopped myself before I could mention how he treated Harper all those years while focusing on Tiffany.
He didn’t even dare to ask what I was going to say. It was like he already knew as he looked to the side and took a few steps back.
“Judging by your silence, I think we’re done here.” I turned to face my car but paused when he spoke again.
“From here, I’m going straight to Harper’s place to knock some sense into her.”
I looked over my shoulder. “What are you waiting for? Just make sure Tittany knows where you are.”
He shut his eyes, like there was no way he was going to do such a thing and when he opened them, they
turned confrontational.
“Why didn’t you come to your sister’s defence when Harper slapped her?”
“Somebody had to put her in her place.”
He shook his head in disbelief. “Don’t tell me you’re still mad about what she and her mom did to you.”
