Jealousy Alpha’s Regret

Chapter 149

Iris’s POV

I stared at Megan’s shocked face as she looked down at her coffeestained white silk blouse. The dark liquid spread across the expensive fabric like a Rorschach test, and I couldn’t help but feel a tiny spark of satisfaction. The lobby had gone completely silent around us, everyone frozen in place as they

waited to see what would happen next.

You BITCH! Megan screamed, her face contorted with rage.

I stepped closer, keeping my voice low enough that only she could hear me. Looks like you’re not concerned about your own dirty secrets getting out to the

pack either.

Her face paled slightly, and I saw genuine fear flash in her eyes. Good. She should be afraid.

I maintained eye contact with Megan, my voice steady despite the adrenaline coursing through me. If you don’t want to embarrass yourself further, I’d suggest showing me some respect from now on. I don’t think I need to explain the consequences of spreading lies and stealing designs to someone who’s already experienced them firsthand.

Megan’s lips trembled with barely contained fury, but the crowd watching us had her trapped. She couldn’t lash out without making herself look even worse.

This isn’t over,she hissed.

I raised an eyebrow. Actually, it is. You’re just too proud to admit it.

I turned away from her, my heart hammering in my chest but my face a perfect mask of composure. As I walked away, I could hear the receptionist’s firm

voice behind me.

I’m sorry, Miss Claire, but if you don’t have an appointment, I’m going to have to ask you to leave. Crescent Design has strict visitor policies.

I didn’t look back, but I could feel the collective disapproval directed at Megan from everyone in the lobby. She’d lost all credibility here, and we both knew it. Her threats meant nothing to me anymore. My wolf stirred inside me, satisfied with how I’d handled the confrontation.

I made my way back to the design department, trying to calm my racing heart. That was more dramatic than I’d intended, but Megan had pushed too far bringing up my pregnancy in public. That was a line she shouldn’t have crossed.

When I reached our floor, Lisa practically bounced out of her chair to intercept me.

Oh my god, Iris, that was AMAZING!she gushed, her eyes wide with excitement. The way you stood up to Megan just nowyou were so badass! Everyone’s

talking about it already!

I suppressed a sigh. Office gossip traveled at warp speed. It wasn’t my finest moment, I admitted.

Are you kidding? She totally deserved it! Lisa lowered her voice conspiratorially. She’s been awful to everyone since she came back from Europe. Always throwing her weight around, taking credit for other people’s worknot just yours.

I didn’t want to encourage the drama, especially since I needed to focus on my actual job. Don’t you have work to do? I seem to remember you mentioning something about entering the jewelry design competition. I’m not going to go easy on you just because we know each other, you know. Better practice.

Lisa’s cheeks flushed, but she grinned. Yes, ma’am! I’ve been working on my sketches every night.
