Chapter 150
I glanced down at the screen and saw Ethan Lowell’s name. Curious, 1 opened his message.
[Next full moon, we’re hosting a hunt. Would love to have you join us.]
I stared at the message, something tugging at my memory. When was the last time I’d participated in a full moon run? It had been that final night at Grey territory before I left. I hadn’t shifted since. My wolf had been restless lately, confined too long in human form.
God, I missed the freedom of running through the forest, the exhilarating rush of power in my wolf form, the feel of earth beneath my paws…
My phone buzzed again with another message from Ethan.
This is a major event. We’d be glad to see you coming.]
I tapped my fingers against the table, considering my response. Part of me desperately wanted to accept. But with my pregnancy… was it even safe to shift?
I hadn’t researched that yet.
Thank you for the invitation, but my situation is a bit complicated right now. I’m not sure if pack activities are the best idea for me at the moment. Let me
think about it, I typed back.
His response came almost immediately.
[No pressure at all. The invitation stands whenever you’re ready. By the way, the fee for your consulting work on the competition has been transferred. Hope it’s a suitable compensation for your expertise.]
I couldn’t help but smile. There was something refreshingly straightforward about Ethan Lowell. Maybe even a bit childish, in an endearing way. For someone who headed one of the most prestigious design studios in the country, he could be surprisingly unguarded in his communications.
[Thank you, it’s more than generous, I replied.
After putting my phone away, I tried to focus on work, but my thoughts kept drifting to Ethan’s kindness. He’d been consistently supportive since we met- offering me jobs, defending my identity as Aurora, inviting me to pack activities… I couldn’t keep accepting his generosity without reciprocating somehow.
When I finished my work for the day, I headed to the upscale shopping mall downtown. I needed to find a suitable thank–you gift for Ethan–something professional but thoughtful. Not too expensive to suggest anything inappropriate, but not so casual that it seemed like an afterthought.
I browsed through several stores before finding myself in a high–end men’s boutique. A silver tie clip with a subtle mountain design caught my eye–elegant without being flashy, and reminiscent of the landscapes where werewolves ran free during full moons. Perfect.
As the saleswoman wrapped my purchase, I considered my motives. Why was I being so careful about this gift? Perhaps because I still didn’t fully understand Ethan’s interest in me. Was it purely professional admiration? Some kind of pack alliance strategy? Or something more personal? Whatever his
reasons, maintaining appropriate boundaries seemed wise.
“Would you like a gift receipt with that?‘ the saleswoman asked, interrupting my thoughts.
“Yes, please,” I nodded. “Just in case.”
I was waiting when I caught a familiar scent that made my pulse jump. I turned my head toward the source.
