My fingers drummed impatiently on the table as Kim worked. “That little bitch ignored our first attempt completely. Acted like it didn’t even
exist. But she won’t be able to ignore this. Not when there’s footage of her striking her poor mother.”
“It’s ready, Mom,” Kim announced, handing me the phone. “Want to check it?”
I took the phone, watching the edited footage with growing satisfaction. It was perfect–just the right balance of shocking violence and family betrayal. I spent the next thirty minutes crafting the perfect caption, pouring every ounce of maternal grievance I could muster into the words.
As a mother, I’m heartbroken to share this,” I typed, “but I cannot remain silent while my daughter Iris Stone continues her pattern of abuse
and abandonment…”
I embellished freely, describing years of fictional mistreatment, her refusal to help her family despite her recent windfall from the design competition, her violent outbursts. By the time I finished, I’d painted a picture of a monster–not the quiet, reserved girl Iris actually was.
“Kim, you’ll need to post something too,” I instructed, checking the time. Talk about threatened you before. Make it convincing.”

As five–thirty approached, my finger hovered over the “post” button. A tiny flicker of doubt passed through my mind–what if this backfired? What if Iris didn’t care about her public image? But I pushed the thought away. Everyone cared about their reputation, especially someone trying to build a design career.
“Now,” I said, pressing the button with a definitive click. The video uploaded instantly, and I shared it to every social media platform I could think of, tagging it with Iris’s name and Crescent Design.
We sat in tense silence, refreshing the page every few seconds. At first, nothing happened. Then, like magic, the views started climbing. Ten… fifty… a hundred… Comments began pouring in, mostly expressions of shock and sympathy.
“It’s working,” I breathed, unable to contain my excitement. “Look at how fast it’s spreading!”
Within an hour, the video had thousands of views and hundreds of comments. Most were supportive, condemning Iris for her “violent behavior toward her “poor mother.” Some even called for her to be fired from Crescent Design.
We left the coffee shop in high spirits, heading back to our rented apartment. It was small and shabby compared to the Stone estate that should have been mine, but soon, I’d have enough money to live properly again.
“By tomorrow morning, she’ll be desperate to make this go away,” I told Kim as we entered our apartment. “I’m thinking fifty thousand, at minimum, to take down the video and stop talking to the press.”
I kicked off my shoes and flopped onto the worn couch, scrolling through the rapidly increasing comments on my post. The hashtag #IrisStoneAbuse was starting to trend in our local area. Perfect.
“Just imagine, Kim,” I said, gesturing around our dingy apartment. “Soon well be out of this dump. We’ll renovate the old Stone house, get back some respect in the wolf community.” I sighed contentedly, already picturing the comfortable life ahead. Maybe even get back our council seat eventually.”
Kim smiled, looking more like me than ever in her calculating expression. Do you think Iris will call tonight?”
“If she’s smart, she will,” I replied, settling deeper into the couch. “And if t tonight, definitely tomorrow when she sees how many people are
