Chapter 244
Iris’s POV
As I gathered my belongings at the station, the investigator handed me back my phone.
“What about Catherine and Kim?” I asked. “They were part of this too.”
The investigator’s expression tightened. “Unfortunately, they were gone by the time our units arrived at the warehouse. Thomas Stone is claiming full responsibility, insisting they were merely following his orders without knowledge of his true intentions.”
“That’s ridiculous,” I said. “They were active participants.”
“Without direct evidence against them specifically…” He spread his hands in a helpless gesture. “The recording only captures Thomas’s confession about your father’s death. We’re looking for them, but for now, Thomas Stone is our only custody.”
I felt a chill run down my spine. Catherine was still out there, and undoubtedly furious that her plan had backfired. I’d need to be careful.
I stood outside the council headquarters, staring at the empty street as night crept across the city. The cool air felt good against my skin after hours in that stuffy interrogation room. Thomas Stone had been arrested, his confession recorded and filed, but something about this whole situation didn’t sit right with me.
“He confessed to everything,” I muttered to myself, wrapping my arms around my body. “But why did it come so easily?”
My head throbbed slightly, and I pressed my fingers against my temple. The last day has been a whirlwind of danger and revelations. I’d finally learned who killed my father, but the victory felt hollow, too neat, too convenient.
“Iris.”
The deep, familiar voice sent a jolt through me. I turned around, not surprised to see Sebastien standing a few yards away. Of course he d be here. What did surprise me was that he’d come personally rather than sending someone, and the unusual tension evident in his normally composed features.
I took a half–step backward instinctively, not wanting him to see how exhausted I truly felt. “I didn’t expect you to come yourself, I said quietly.
His eyes scanned me from head to toe, and I watched as the tension visibly drained from his shoulders when he found me unharmed. That small reaction made my stomach flutter in a way I didn’t want to acknowledge.
“Come,” he said, extending his hand toward me. The commanding tone hadn’t changed, even after our divorce.
I shook my head. “Alpha Grey, I still have things to handle here.”

Chapter 244
He moved closer, his presence filling my senses in that overwhelming way that always made it hard to think clearly fingers wrapped around my wrist. His touch was gentle but firm, his skin warm against mine.
“We’re going to the hospital, he stated simply, tugging me toward his car.
“Hospital?” I tried to pull my hand away. “I don’t need a hospital.”
“You were kidnapped and held for the better part of a day. You need to be checked.”
I dug my heels in. “You can’t just show up and start giving orders. Where exactly are you taking me?”
Sebastien’s eyes locked with mine. “The hospital, Iris. You need medical attention.”
‘I’m fine. Really.”
“That’s for doctors to determine.”
We engaged in a silent battle of wills, his hand still clasped around my wrist. After several futile attempts to free myself, I relented with a sigh. Maybe it wasn’t the worst idea to get checked out, for the babies‘ sake if nothing else.
“Fine,” I muttered.
The ride to the hospital was unbearably quiet. I pretended to look out the window, but in reality, I was watching Sebastien’s reflection in the glass. His eyes kept flicking toward me, his knuckles white as he gripped the steering wheel. Something about his rigid posture seemed off–more tense than his usual controlled demeanor.
I wanted to break the silence but couldn’t find the words. What do you say to the husband you’ve divorced who suddenly appears at the council headquarters to take you to the hospital? Especially when you’re carrying his child that he knows nothing about.
When we arrived at the hospital, Sebastien escorted me through the VIP entrance like he owned the place. Which, knowing the Grey family’s influence, he probably did.
“I need a full examination for this woman,” he told the nurse at the desk, his voice carrying that unmistakable authority that made people jump to attention.
The nurse handed me a clipboard with a long list of tests. As I scanned it, my heart stopped when I saw “ultrasound” listed among the procedures.
