Chapter 245
“Are all these really necessary?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
Sebastien’s eyes bore into mine. “All of them. Don’t waste time.”
I studied his face, trying to decipher if he knew about my pregnancy or if this was just standard protocol after a kidnapping. His expression gave nothing away.
“Fine,” I agreed reluctantly, following the nurse down the corridor.

Test after test, the doctors found nothing concerning besides mild dehydration and slight bruising around my wrists from the restraints. Finally, we approached the ultrasound room, and panic surged through me.
I stopped at the door, turning to face Sebastien who was still following close behind me.
“Alpha Grey,” I said, using his formal title to create distance, “you might not want to come in here.*
I pointed to the sign on the door, which indicated it was a gynecological ultrasound room. “We’re divorced now. Some things… it’s better if you don’t see.”
A flash of something–annoyance? disappointment?-crossed his features before his expression smoothed back into neutrality. To my
relief, he didn’t argue.
I slipped inside and closed the door, letting out a shaky breath. Had he already figured it out? Or was I just being paranoid?
Lying on the examination table, I flinched as the cold gel was applied to my lower abdomen.
“Try to relax,” the doctor said kindly, moving the transducer across my skin.
I nodded, my eyes drawn to the monitor. And then I saw it–a tiny shape with a rapidly flickering light at its center. My babies. Our twin. Something warm and fiercely protective bloomed in my chest.
“You’ll be about twenty weeks along,” the doctor commented. “Everything looks healthy so far.”

I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the screen. That tiny fluttering light was part of me, part of Sebastien too. Despite everything- failed marriage, the danger surrounding us, the uncertainty of the future–I couldn’t help but wonder about this little life.
“I wonder if you’ll have my eyes,” I thought, a small smile tugging at my lips. “God help you if you inherit your father’s stubborn personality, though.”
The doctor finished the examination and wiped the gel from my stomach. “Wait here a moment. I’ll organize your results and discuss them with you shortly.”

I adjusted my clothing and took a deep breath. Stepping out of the ultrasound room, I saw Sebastien he’d been leaning against the wall.
“How is everything?” he asked, his eyes searching mine with an intensity that made me uncomfortable.

“The doctor’s still compiling the results,” I said evasively. “You can go ahead to the next station if you want. I’ll wart here.
Sebastien’s gaze lingered on my face, then dropped briefly to my midsection before returning to meet my eyes. My heart stuttered. Did he
suspect?
“Alright,” he said finally, walking away with reluctance evident in every step.
I watched him go, relief washing over me. I hadn’t been ready for that conversation yet. I needed time to figure out what to say,
tell him.
