Chapter 37
This must be Ethan Lowell.
I remained still, hoping to avoid drawing attention to myself. Something about this situation felt increasingly complicated, and the last thing I needed was to get tangled in another powerful wolf family’s business.
A doctor emerged from the treatment room, approaching Ethan with a respectful nod. “The patient is stable now, Alpha. We’ve managed to regulate his shifting pattern and address the cardiovascular stress. He’ll need rest, but he should recover fully.”
I exhaled quietly, relieved that Alpha Lowell would be okay. As the doctor continued his report, I slipped from my chair, intending to leave without fanfare. I’d done what I could; now it was time to go.
I was nearly to the elevator when I heard footsteps behind me.
“Ms. Stone,” the butler called, hurrying to catch up. “Please, a
moment.”
I turned, offering a polite smile. “I’m glad Mr. Lowell is going to be
alright. I should be getting back now.”

The butler lowered his voice. “I cannot express our gratitude enough. If you hadn’t found him when you did…” He paused, glancing over his shoulder. “There is one thing I’d like to ask of you, if I may.”
My wolf senses prickled with caution. “What is it?”
“Could you possibly keep today’s events confidential? Not mention to others that you encountered Mr. Lowell or that he was brought here?”
I understood immediately. Wolf politics were always complicated, and
a powerful Alpha’s vulnerable family member could become a target. “I understand the rules,” I said with a nod. “You can trust my
discretion.”
Relief washed over his features. “Thank you, Ms. Stone. The Lowell family won’t forget your kindness.”
“It’s nothing,” I assured him, already backing toward the elevator. “I should go now. My friend is waiting.”
The butler offered to arrange transportation, but I declined. Rachel would be worried, and honestly, I’d had enough of wolf politics for
one day.
Outside the hospital, Rachel was pacing near the entrance, her face lighting up when she saw me.

“Oh my God, Iris!” She rushed over, linking her arm through mine. “Is
he okay? That looked serious–and those guys who showed up were
definitely not regular paramedics.”
“He’ll be fine,” I said quietly, guiding her toward the parking lot.
“Turns out he’s someone important.”
Rachel’s eyes widened. “Like, wolf–important?” she whispered.
I nodded slightly. “Can’t really talk about it.”
“Understood.” Rachel squeezed my arm. “Man, you can’t even move to
a new place without drama finding you. Blue Harbor is supposed to be where wolves and humans coexist peacefully!”
I looked back at the hospital, thinking about the Lowell name. “I guess the boundary between worlds is thinner than we think.”
Rachel tugged me toward her car. “After all this excitement, I think we need to decompress. Mall trip?”
I smiled, grateful for the suggestion. “Shopping therapy sounds perfect right now.”
