Chapter 38
Sebastien’s POV
I pushed open the front door of Grey Manor, my jaw clenched tight
enough to crack teeth. The board meeting had been a complete waste
of time, filled with bureaucratic bullshit that could have been
handled by email. All I wanted now was a strong drink and silence.
But something was off the moment I stepped inside. The house felt…
different. Wrong.
The door to the master bedroom was wide open. Iris always closed it,
a habit I’d found annoying but had gotten used to. My steps
quickened as I approached, an unexplainable tension building in my
chest.
I stopped at the threshold, my eyes scanning the room. The bed was
made–too perfectly, like a hotel room rather than a lived–in space.
My gaze moved to the closet, where the door hung slightly ajar. Half
of it was empty, the hangers bare where Iris’s clothes had been.
“What the fuck?” I muttered, moving to the dresser. The same story-
drawers half–empty, her jewelry box gone.

I stalked back into the hallway. “Mrs. Peterson!” I called out, my voice
echoing through the manor.
Our housekeeper appeared at the end of the hall, her eyes lowered.
“Yes, Mr. Grey?”
“Where is my wife?” I kept my voice even, controlled, though I could
feel my wolf stirring beneath my skin.
Mrs. Peterson’s shoulders hunched slightly. “Mrs. Grey packed her
things this morning, sir. She said… she said there was no reason for
her to stay here anymore.”
The words hit me like a physical blow. No reason to stay? After
everything I’d done for her? After I’d let her live in my family’s home,
work at my company?
“And you just let her leave?” My voice dropped dangerously low.
“I–I didn’t think it was my place to stop her, sir.” Mrs. Peterson’s
scent spiked with fear. “She seemed very determined.”
I turned away, not trusting myself to respond. My phone vibrated in
my pocket–perfect fucking timing. I pulled it out, ready to decline
whatever bullshit call was coming in, when I saw the name on the
screen: Catherine Stone.

Great. Just what I needed. My soon–to–be ex–mother–in–law.
I almost declined the call, but something stopped me. I stood in the
middle of the empty bedroom, Iris’s faint scent still lingering in the
air. It pulled at something primal inside me, something that wasn’t
ready to let go.
“Catherine,” I answered, my voice flat.
“Sebastien, darling!” Her overly enthusiastic voice grated on my
nerves. “It’s been far too long since we’ve seen you and Iris at a family
gathering. The full moon is coming up next week–surely you both
can spare an evening to visit? The pack has been asking about you.”
I almost laughed. She clearly had no idea what was happening
between Iris and me. The cooling period, the impending divorce-
none of it had reached her yet.
“Sebastien? Are you there?” Catherine prompted when I didn’t
immediately respond.
I looked around the half–empty room again, something ugly and
possessive curling in my chest. “I know about it,” I said quietly. “I’ll be
there.”
“Wonderful! I’ll tell everyone to expect-”

I hung up before she could finish. I didn’t need to hear more of her
fake pleasantries.
My wolf was restless, pacing beneath my skin. The thought of Iris
packing up and leaving without a word–without my permission-
made my blood boil. Where would she go? She had no real friends
except for that human girl, Rachel. No family that actually cared
about her.
