Chapter 65
I bit back a smile. Marcus was being generous with his recollection-
he’d been skeptical at first, only giving me a chance because Sebastien had insisted. But I appreciated the support now, especially
with Megan glaring daggers from across the room.
“You have a remarkable eye for detail,” Debra continued, still studying
my designs. “There’s something uniquely captivating about your
work. It’s not just technically proficient–it has soul.”
“That’s very kind,” I said, feeling a genuine blush warm my cheeks.
Her praise didn’t feel like empty flattery; there was something almost
familiar in her appreciation.
Debra looked me up and down, assessing me with newfound interest.
“You’re quite extraordinary, aren’t you? Not just your appearance, which is lovely, but there’s something about you… a quality that’s
rare to find.”
I shifted uncomfortably under her scrutiny, unsure what she was
seeing that fascinated her so much. “I just try to put my best work
forward,” I said quietly.
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a business card, offering
it to me with a deliberate gesture. “I can say without exaggeration

that I have significant thoughts about your abilities and your future
potential.”
Taking the card, I froze when I read the name: Ethan Lowell. The CEO
of North Star Studio himself.
“If you’re ever interested in working on larger projects, North Star’s
doors are always open to you,” Debra said, her voice dropping to a
more confidential tone. “Ethan has seen your work as well. He’s very
impressed.”
I felt Marcus tense beside me. His scent shifted, anxiety threading
through it. I glanced at him briefly, catching the concerned look in
his eyes. Is he worried I’ll leave Crescent for North Star?
“Thank you for the opportunity,” I said carefully, tucking the card into
my pocket. “It’s always good to have options.”
Debra smiled, seemingly pleased with my response. As she and
Marcus continued their tour, I returned to my seat, my mind racing.
North Star Studio was one of the most prestigious design houses in
the country. An offer to work there–even an implied one–was the
kind of opportunity designers dreamed about.
The rest of the day passed in a blur. I finished my remaining tasks,
acutely aware of Megan’s increasing agitation every time someone

complimented my work. By the time I left the office, exhaustion was settling into my bones–a combination of the day’s emotions and my
pregnancy taking its toll.
Back at my apartment in Blue Harbor, I spread several sketches across my coffee table. These were special orders for werewolf clients— designs that incorporated subtle symbols only our kind would recognize. I’d been neglecting them while focusing on the North Star
project.
“Finally have time to catch up on these,” I murmured to myself, admiring the sunset through my window. The fading light painted the sky in vivid oranges and purples, like a canvas that changed every evening. I could feel the moon’s presence even before its rise, a
constant pull in my blood.
My phone rang suddenly, startling me from my reverie. I didn’t recognize the number on the screen.
“Hello?” I answered cautiously.
“Hello, Iris.” The voice was male, soft but confident. “This is Ethan
Lowell.”
