Kiss Me, Don’t Talk: A Blizzard Night’s Confession novel Chapter 1

“Georgiana, the contract’s ready for your signature.”

Georgiana Gates took the papers and flipped through them steadily, eyes calm and focused.

Adelina Charles slid into the chair across from her desk and grinned. “Gigi, do you think Catherine would have a mental breakdown if she found out we closed the deal she’s been chasing for half a year? I mean, she might cry in the bathroom.”

“That’s not really accurate,” Georgiana replied without looking up. “It’s more like, who else could have pulled it off?”

Adelina leaned her chin on her hand, fingertips brushing her cheek. There was real admiration in her eyes. On paper, she was the official head of Verve, but everyone knew Georgiana was the real force behind the company. At nineteen, Georgiana had swept Adelina—who always joked she was just backup—right along with her into the big leagues.

Once Georgiana finished reading, she signed her name in a smooth flourish and handed back the folder.

“I honestly can’t wait for the Gates family to find out you’re the real boss here. I can already imagine how jealous Catherine and her mother are going to be.”

Georgiana’s lips curled gently. “Did you sort out everything for next week?”

Adelina lifted her brows, full of confidence. “Relax. Nothing’s going to get in the way of our romantic getaway to England.”

Georgiana smiled at that. She liked Adelina’s sunny, carefree spirit. Unlike herself, Adelina found a way to turn even a business trip into a dreamy escape.

Adelina tapped her phone, zooming in on a photo. “By the way… did you hear your whirlwind-marriage husband is back in town?”

Georgiana replied honestly, “No, I didn’t know.”

She glanced at the photo. Latham Blair looked magnetic, every line on his face sharp and striking. His presence felt intense even through the screen, radiating quiet authority and a kind of icy distance.

Adelina pumped her fist, her eyes sparkling. “Babe, you have to go for it. Sleep with him, make him fall head over heels.”

Georgiana couldn’t help but laugh at her friend’s dramatic encouragement.

“I’m off to pick out a wedding present for you,” Adelina said, bouncing to her feet.

The room fell quiet again as Adelina left, and Georgiana’s smile faded. She and Latham had signed their marriage license two months ago. The very next day, he’d flown abroad for work. Before that, they’d only met once, to hash out the terms of their agreement. Latham’s grandfather, Ned Blair, had barely survived surgery that year, and after he recovered, he insisted Latham get married immediately.

Ned had made it a condition: as long as he was alive, divorce wasn’t on the table. They were expected to keep up appearances, stay discreet, and not even discuss children for the first two years. The agreement was fifty-two pages long.
