With the microphone on, Avril blinked, then mentally applauded her cousin-in-law’s signature boldness. Instead of ignoring the insult, Larissa was escalating things.
Inspired, Avril repeated what she had just said, her voice now ringing through the hall. “Garrick, you have the nerve to call me stupid? You can’t even control a simple microphone, yet you think you can control anything important? And you dare to lecture me about choosing sides?”
“Fine, since you brought it up, let me be clear. Even in a wheelchair, Haskell could run circles around all of you! His legs may be injured, but his brain is perfectly fine! As long as he doesn’t give up, he’ll crush anyone who gets in his way!”
“Besides, his legs can be healed. But even if they couldn’t, a sharp mind is all he needs. Someone like you, on the other hand, with a broken brain? That’s truly incurable!”
Avril’s tirade left Garrick so furious he looked ready to leap across the hall and strangle her.
“How did I do, Larissa?” Avril asked, beaming, clearly seeking praise.
Larissa gave her a thumbs-up. “Sharp, witty, and straight to the point!”
Garrick switched his microphone back on. “Avril, you just wait! Don’t think I won’t touch you just because we’re both Palmers!”
Just as Avril was about to retort, Larissa patted her shoulder again.
“My turn,” she said, then spoke calmly into the microphone. “Garrick, if you have a problem, bring it to me. Leave Avril out of it. I’m waiting. If you don’t, you’re no man. Everyone here heard you. You’re not going to admit you’re a coward, are you?”
In another suite, Lucius Lincoln watched Larissa, his eyes narrowed.
“This Larissa is quite bold.”
His assistant replied, “The elite circles have been buzzing with rumors about her. They say she’s been fearless since returning to the Judson family, completely catching Paxton’s family off guard. Even Haskell Palmer treasures her. Her engagement party last night was magnificent, and she reportedly resolved a major crisis that occurred.”
Lucius had heard some of the rumors but hadn’t believed them, knowing they were often exaggerated. But today, he had witnessed Larissa’s audacious personality firsthand. It was no wonder she had made such waves in Regal City, earning the favor of both Haskell and Zoltan. Even the Judson patriarch, Kiernan, was considering giving her the family business.
His curiosity piqued. “Haskell has a sharp eye. Even crippled, he wouldn’t fall for someone without real substance. Investigate this Larissa for me.”
