“You learn from experience,” Larissa explained smoothly. “When I first came back to the Judson family, Honora was always trying to frame me. It just became a habit.”
Lucius was silent.
Larissa continued, “And another thing, Officer. I suspect he’s behind my cousin’s disappearance. Coming here to search for him was just a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black! That’s why I’m also requesting the surveillance footage from the Lincoln estate from four days ago.”
The Lincoln butler, his face red with anger, shot back, “That’s a lie! Young Master is very close with Fergus! He would never hurt him like that!”
Larissa turned to the butler. “And you. The officer said earlier that I could sue you for defamation. I let you search my home to prove my innocence, but that doesn’t mean I’ll let you slander me. So, Officer, I would also like to file a defamation complaint against the Lincoln family’s butler.”
The officer Larissa had called took charge, his expression grim. “Mr. Lincoln, based on the evidence Ms. Judson has provided, you are a suspect in a case of violent assault. Both of you will need to come with us to the station for questioning.”
Lucius’s face was a mask of fury. He clenched his fists and glared at Larissa. “Larissa, if anything happens to Fergus, the entire Judson family will pay for it,” he warned.
Larissa pointed at him. “Officer, did you hear that? He’s threatening me right here in front of you!”
The officers’ expressions grew even more stern. One of them warned Lucius sharply, “I don’t care who you are. You will behave yourself here!”
He then turned to Larissa. “Ms. Judson, you’ll need to come with us as well and provide the surveillance footage from the last five days.”
Larissa nodded eagerly. “Of course, Officer! I will cooperate fully with your investigation.”
She turned to her butler. “Porter, please pull the footage from the last five days and give it to the officers.”
Larissa, Lucius, and his butler sat together in the back of a police car, the air thick with tension.
The moment they were inside, Larissa put on a show of concern. “Mr. Lincoln, you still haven’t answered my question. How did you get those injuries? Was it really an explosion? It looks so serious.”
Her tone was light and teasing.
Underneath the thick gauze wrapped around his forehead, a vein throbbed in Lucius’s temple. He gritted his teeth, forcing the words out. “Will you ever shut up?”
Larissa just laughed. “I’m just concerned about you. After all, your grandmother was sent to jail not too long ago, just like your uncle. Now you’re seriously injured. It would be just tragic if you ended up behind bars too!”
