“My wife…”
Larissa lost count of how many times Haskell called her “wife” on their wedding night. All she knew was that she drifted off to sleep wrapped in the sound of that single, affectionate word.
When she woke up the next morning—
“My whole body aches.”
That was her first thought as she surfaced from a groggy sleep.
Her second thought was: “Haskell had been holding back on me!”
Fighting off her sleepiness, Larissa turned her head to look at the man holding her. His eyes were closed, his handsome features peaceful in the morning light. His skin was flawless, without a single imperfection.
So beautiful. Like a perfect droplet of water on clean glass, he made her want to reach out and touch.
Perhaps sensing her gaze, Haskell’s eyes fluttered open, meeting hers. A slow smile spread across his lips, and the hand resting on her waist tightened, pulling her closer.
“My wife,” he murmured, his voice raspy with sleep, making it all the more alluring. “When did you wake up?”
“A minute ago,” Larissa replied.
“And you’ve been watching me this whole time?” he chuckled.
“I have. Can’t help it when you’re this good-looking.”
Larissa stretched luxuriously. “Well, your legs are healed, and Grandpa Zoltan has officially named you the heir. You’re just as busy. Neither of us has time to relax right now.”
She cupped his face in her hands and planted a soft kiss on his lips. “Once we’re through this busy period, we’ll make up for it with a proper honeymoon. How does that sound?”
His face lit up. “Perfect. We’ll definitely make up for it.”
The years of youth are fleeting. There’s a saying that you can't have youth and the wisdom to appreciate it at the same time. The same could be said for love. When feelings are at their most passionate, you have to seize the moment and live them to the fullest. After all, there would be plenty of quiet, ordinary days in the future.
…
Since it was a week, their schedule was tight. They took the private jet her uncle had given her and flew to Cloudville, the place where she’d accidentally seen sprites after eating wild mushrooms. It was a city of romance, beautiful year-round. They checked into a scenic B&B nestled between the mountains and the sea. The first night, they stayed in to watch the ocean. The next day, they donned matching outfits and, following a guide Avril had prepared for them, explored all the must-see spots and sampled the local delicacies.
