Finley looked up from his work at his fuming younger brother and gave a curt nod. “Just make sure the compensation payment doesn’t come from your personal account. Don’t leave any traces.”
“I know,” Leopold grumbled.
Finley set down his pen. “If Kitty is handled, what are you still so angry about?”
“What do you think? It’s Larissa!” Leopold spat. “After last night, I actually thought maybe she wasn’t so bad. I even stayed up and wrote a ten-page, handwritten apology. But this morning, when Mom and I went to give it to her, she didn’t even glance at it before throwing it in the trash! And that’s not all. Now she’s using the gown incident to run a smear campaign against me online! Some ‘sister’ she is!” He ground his teeth in frustration.
Finley’s expression darkened. “So she’s not going to forgive us?”
Leopold threw his legs up on the table with a cold snort. “Forgive us? Not a chance. I also found out she told Mom she only came back to the Judson family to ruin us. To make us feel what it’s like to have nothing! Can you believe the nerve? Does she think we’re like those herbs she grows in the countryside, something she can just uproot whenever she feels like it? She’s completely delusional!”
Remembering what his father, Paxton, had said the previous night, Finley’s gaze grew even colder. His original plan had been simple: cripple Larissa’s legs so she and Haskell could be a matching set.
It would have been fitting revenge for what she did to his own leg. But now, it was clear things weren’t that simple.
If Larissa refused to forgive them and was dead set on destroying their family, then he had no reason to go easy on his so-called sister any longer.
“I’ve already got people digging for dirt on her,” Leopold’s voice cut through his thoughts. “I refuse to believe someone like her doesn’t have skeletons in her closet. And if she doesn’t, I’ll just create some for her!”
The unexpected outburst made Ursa jump, and she nearly dropped the hoes and trowels she was holding. It was only then that she noticed Leopold was also in the room.
Leopold frowned, his eyes fixed on the strange collection of tools. “Gardening tools? For what? Who’s gardening?”
A dreadful thought, sparked by his brother’s violent reaction, crossed his mind. He turned to Finley, his expression one of horrified disbelief. “Finley… you’re not actually going to hoe Larissa’s garden, are you?!”
Finley’s face was a mask of utter humiliation. He wanted to deny it, but what other excuse could he possibly give?
Leopold stared at him, aghast. “Bro, have you really sunk this low?”
