Last Female Sypher and Her Brother’s Friends
Chapter 51
Aria
“So we meet again,” Aldren says, his gaze fixing on me.”
“You remember Aria,” Ronan confirms. “As I reported to you, it turns out that the curious ability she displayed showed signs that she was about to change. Like her brother Liam, her shifter Gene has activated, and she has completed her first shift. As it stands, she will not only be under my protection, but she will be an official member of our pack just like her brother.”
The new man finally speaks.
His voice is deeper. Rougher.
“Has she spoken her official vows?” he repeats, like he’s testing the word.
His eyes–dark, unreadable–lock onto mine.
Something in my chest tightens.
I don’t like him, my wolf says immediately. Not at all.
I swallow, forcing myself to hold his gaze. “Not yet.”
Silence stretches for a moment too long.
Then Aldren steps forward slightly.
“As protocol dictates,” he says, “newly turned wolves must be evaluated and registered under Assembly law.”
“She’s already registered,” Ronan replies. “I sent in the paperwork just this morning.”
“That’s not sufficient.”
“Sending spies to watch my land is not sufficient. And it’s an action that will have consequences.”

The tension snaps tight between them.
I feel like I’m standing in the middle of a standoff I barely understand but am somehow the center of.
Kane tilts his head slightly, still studying me.
“There’s something unusual about her,” he says.
My heart stutters.
Careful, my wolf whispers.
Ronan doesn’t even glance at me. “She’s a Faint. The transition hit her hard. Plus, one of her gifts had already manifested before she turned.”
Aldren’s gaze narrows. “Is that so?”
I step forward before I can second–guess myself.
“Yes,” I say, ready to repeat the words that I memorized. “I can block different manners of mind control attacks. We’ve tried it, and they don’t work on me.” My voice is steadier than I expect. “I’m still adjusting. I don’t have full control yet.”
Kane’s eyes flicker.
Like he’s listening to something beneath my words.
He’s hunting, my wolf warns.
“Then we’ll need to conduct a formal assessment,” Aldren says.
“No,” Ronan answers immediately.
Aldren’s expression cools. “That wasn’t a request.”
Ronan takes a step forward.
It’s subtle.

But it’s a challenge.
“She’s mine,” he says, voice dropping lower. More dangerous. “Under my authority as Alpha.”
A beat.
Then-
“And as hers.”
The words land more heavily than anything else.
Aldren stills.
He understands exactly what Ronan is implying.
Hierarchy.
Claim.
Protection.

A line that cannot be crossed lightly.
Kane’s gaze sharpens. “You’re asserting dual authority.”
“I’m stating a fact,” Ronan replies. “Upon our change, we’ve also experienced the pull of our faded bond. So
I am not just her Alpha and her mate.”
Silence stretches again.
This time, thicker. Heavier.
Because they know.
They’ve hit a wall.
They can’t take me without cause.

And they don’t have one.
Not yet.
Aldren exhales slowly. “Then we proceed with a vow.”
My stomach tightens.
“A vow?” I repeat.
“Yes,” he says. “If you intend to remain in this pack, you will formally pledge yourself. It binds you under Ronan’s authority–and confirms your status.”
It also traps me in their system.
But it protects me from being taken.
Do it, my wolf says. Safer inside the den than in the open.
Ronan glances at me briefly.
Your choice.
I nod.
“I’ll do it.”
We move to the boundary line.
The air feels charged, like something ancient is watching.
Aldren begins the ritual, his voice steady and practiced.
“State your name.”
“Aria.”
“State your intent.”

I swallow.
“I choose to join this pack. To stand under Alpha Ronan’s authority. To protect and be protected.”
The words feel heavy.
Binding.
Real.
“Do you swear loyalty?” Aldren continues.
“I do.”
“Do you accept the consequences of betrayal?”
My wolf growls softly.
“I do.”
Aldren nods once.
“It is done.”
Something shifts.
Subtle, but undeniable.
Like a thread tying me to this place just tightened.
Kane watches me the entire time.
Unblinking.
Unconvinced.
Then Aldren speaks again.

“You may still come with us,” he says. “Training at Assembly headquarters would be… beneficial.”
My chest tightens.
“No,” Ronan says before I can respond.
Aldren’s gaze flicks to him. “You’re refusing an official recommendation.”
“I’m declining,” Ronan corrects. “She stays here.”
Kane finally steps forward.
Not aggressive.
But deliberate.
“And if we insist?”
Ronan doesn’t move.
Doesn’t blink.
“Then you’d better find a legal reason,” he says quietly.
The threat isn’t loud.
But it’s absolute.
Another long silence.
Then-
Aldren exhales.
“We’ll be watching,” he says.
“I expect nothing less,” Ronan replies.
