She had almost no idea what was happening in the outside world lately.
They were worried someone might trace information back to them, so she had remained completely hidden.
Felix said, “Evan refuses to sign the divorce papers. So your brother took the entire Wright family.
“Fiona, his mother, and his father.”
In other words, Evan’s parents and sister were all in Aaron’s hands now.
Aaron was forcing him to let go of even the last connection he still had to Stella.
Stella fell silent.
Then the corner of her mouth curved into a faint smile.
“What choice does he have? He’ll choose exactly the same way he always has.”
Felix looked at her. “Do you think he’ll fight your brother for you this time? Yara is still in Seaborne.”
This wasn’t just one choice anymore.
Evan was being pressured from both sides.
On one side were the Wright family members Aaron had taken.
On the other was Yara, who was still in Seaborne.
Evan had to know that if Aaron personally came to Seaborne, there was no guarantee Yara would remain completely safe.
Stella said nothing.
Yara.
The Wright family.
On one side, Evan needed Aaron to release his family and send them back to Harbor City.
On the other, he needed to keep Aaron from coming to Seaborne and getting anywhere near Yara.
“So really, he only has one choice.”
Based on everything Evan had done before, Stella had no doubt what he would choose.
The Wright family.
And she would be abandoned again.
Felix said, “We’ll see.”
They would see whether Evan disappointed her yet again.
How many times had he already chosen to abandon Stella?
At this point, Felix had almost lost count.
Back in Harbor City, Evan had chosen the Wright family over Stella even when nothing particularly serious was happening.
Now that their lives were at stake, there was even less reason to wonder what he would do.
Stella frowned.
“Don’t worry,” he said. “He has too much on his plate right now to investigate anything.”
Stella frowned. “Logically, if I’m dead and the Wright family is in Aaron’s hands, Evan should sign the divorce papers without hesitation.”
After all, the living were always supposed to come first.
If someone was dead, then letting go of them should be easy enough.
Yet Evan was actually standing his ground against Aaron.
Felix shook his head. “He was never going to sign that easily.”
He answered without hesitation.
Felix understood Evan well enough.
Maybe Stella had never mattered to Evan as much as the Wright family did.
But that didn’t mean she had meant nothing to him.
And after Stella’s supposed death, Evan had almost certainly fallen apart.
At a time like this, asking him to sever his last remaining tie to her completely was another matter entirely.
As long as Stella was still legally his wife, Evan still had one last thing to cling to.
And now Aaron was determined to take even that away from him.
There was no way Evan would sign without a fight.
