After Evan’s warning, Leon decided it was better to keep his distance where he should.
Monique stared at him. “You’re unbelievable. You’re really throwing away a lifelong friendship over a woman?”
Leon gave her a cold look.
“If you were actually a guy, then sure, I’d call you one of the guys. But you’re not, so what exactly are we?”
Monique was speechless.
“Go,” Leon said impatiently. “Why are you still standing here?”
He had already made himself perfectly clear. The longer Monique stayed, the more irritated he became.
And now, Leon was starting to regret everything.
If he had listened to Evan back when Jennifer was still in Harbor City, maybe he wouldn’t have pushed her so far that she left.
Funny how once she was gone, his head had suddenly cleared.
Even the way he handled things had become much more decisive.
He could only hope...
That after leaving the country, Jennifer was still keeping an eye on what was happening with him.
Maybe if she found out he had pushed Monique away, she would feel a little better.
Then he thought about their baby.
The regret hit even harder.
He had caused all of this.
Back then, no matter what anyone told him, he simply wouldn’t listen.
Maybe it was also because Monique had suddenly become so determined to “act like a woman.”
The change was too obvious.
With how lazy she used to be, would she really bring him lunch every day if she didn’t have feelings for him?
Every single day?
Something was clearly off.
With a loud crash, Monique shoved herself to her feet so abruptly that the chair toppled over.
For a split second, hurt flashed through her eyes.
Leon caught it.
And that only confirmed his suspicion.
At some point, Monique really had developed feelings for him.
“Leon, you’re seriously going too far!” Monique snapped. “You know better than anyone what kind of relationship we’ve always had. And now, because of some woman...”
“Is she just some woman?”
Leon cut her off coldly.
Monique froze.
“Don’t come see me anymore.”
This time, when Monique tried to use their years of friendship as leverage, Leon was even more direct.
