Chapter 229
He’s not exactly that powerful yet, is he?
With how aggressively Summer had been scheming against her, Stella had almost thought Ruby’s mess in Eirden was already fully resolved.
“Did she get out of trouble?” Stella asked.
Aaron gave a low laugh. “Arthur Nevin is a very cunning man. He played her.”
Stella went quiet.
So she got played.
Which meant they didn’t even need to make another move on their side.
“Hogarth Group is already piling pressure on Wright Group from one end,” Aaron said. “You just need to pick your timing.”
“Got it.”
All the trouble Wright Group was dealing with now had come from her brother.
His pieces were already in place. Originally, as long as Stella kept pushing, Evan would eventually crack and sign the divorce papers.
But honestly, this situation worked even better.
It wasn’t just Stella making trouble now.
Summer was helping too.
Let them all drive him out of his mind.
At the hospital, Dora and Fiona were just coming back from the doctor’s office when they ran into Evan outside Summer’s room.
The second Dora saw him, her eyes turned even redder. “Evan.”
“Evan,” Fiona said.
୮
Evan stood there with both hands in his pockets. He was tall enough that, looking down at them now, there was something cold and almost oppressive in his gaze.
That look made Fiona uneasy.
Her cards still hadn’t been unfrozen. She was nearly broke.
And with one crisis after another hitting the Wright family, she didn’t even dare bring it up.
Thinking about that only made her angrier at Stella.
That damned woman.

This was all because of her.
She’d turned everything upside dowtrand dragged Fiona into it too.
“If Summer slit her wrist,” Evan said coldly, “why weren’t you with her?”
His voice was sharp and distant.
Not the way someone should speak to family.
Both Dora and Fiona felt their chests tighten.
Fiona didn’t dare answer.
Dora said, “One of her family’s maids is with her.”
Just mentioning Summer’s family brought out a trace of irritation in Dora’s voice.
What was Ruby trying-to say by sending her own servant over? That the Wright family wasn’t taking care of Summer properly?
Even after leaving for Eirden, she still sent someone to wait on her daughter.
Maybe it was because Ruby’s situation in Eirden still wasn’t settled, but lately even small things like this
irritated Dora.
And now, with one child after another in danger, she was already exhausted.
Evan didn’t say anything else.
He turned and headed for Summer’s room, with Dora and Fiona hurrying after him.
Inside the room, Summer and Mrs. Mendes were still discussing what to do next.
“No matter what,” Mrs. Mendes was saying, “you have to pull yourself together now. This is probably your one chance to make it stick.”
Summer nodded heavily. “I know.”
୮
Mrs. Mendes lowered her voice. “Whatever happens, you have to use the child to make Mr. Wright personally send Stella to prison.”
“You’re right…”
Before she could finish, the door flew open.
Summer and Mrs. Mendes both jolted and instinctively looked toward the entrance.
