Chapter 232

Not long after Evan left, the bodyguards were posted back outside Dora and Fiona left one after the
other.
The second Summer saw all those guards return, anger clogged her chest.
“If anything comes up, have him contact you directly. And be careful.”
She lowered her voice and warned Mrs. Mendes.
Mrs. Mendes nodded. “Don’t worry, Miss.”
With that many guards posted by Evan, it would naturally be much harder for them to do anything
“Back there… did he look like he heard us?”
Summer asked in a low voice.
Evan’s men were everywhere outside now, and she didn’t even dare speak too loudly.
At the mention of what had just happened, Mrs. Mendes’s face darkened too. She thought for a moment, then shook her head. “I don’t think so.”
If Evan had heard everything, he wouldn’t have just left like that.
Summer had thought the same thing.
The rock pressing on her chest finally eased a little. “Just be careful from here on out.’
She had really been terrified just now.
For a moment, she truly thought Evan had heard them. The look on his face had scared her so badly her whole body wouldn’t stop shaking.
Meanwhile, Evan was on his way to see Felix.
Patrick was driving. Evan sat in the back with a cigarette between his fingers.
He didn’t say a word the whole way.
It wasn’t until they stopped at a red light that he finally spoke.
“She was scared just now, wasn’t she?”
He meant Summer.
When she was facing him earlier, he had clearly sensed her fear.
Especially the way her eyes kept dodging his.
Patrick thought back to the way Summer had been trembling. She had definitely looked afraid of something.
But then he remembered the missing baby and said, “She was probably afraid the child wouldn’t be found

alive.
“Not afraid of me?”
Patrick hesitated. “…”
That seemed unlikely.
If Summer were afraid of Evan, she wouldn’t still be trying so hard to stay in the Wright family by marrying
him.
If she wanted to marry him, then she couldn’t truly fear him.
“She’s probably afraid they won’t find the child,” Patrick said carefully. “Most mothers are terrified when their child goes missing.”
That answer eased some of Evan’s suspicion.
Just as they reached the gates of Felix’s mansion in Clearwater Bay, Stella called.
Seeing her name on the screen, Evan was surprised.
But he still answered.
He lifted the phone to his ear and said coldly, “You’re still awake?”
It was almost one in the morning, and she still wasn’t asleep. Did she not know what kind of condition her body was in?
Thinking about the fact that she had only just miscarried, the pressure in his chest grew even heavier.
Stella said, “Are you at the hospital?”
“What is it?”
“Come back. There’s a lead on the baby.”
Evan’s voice turned mocking. “A lead?”
On the other end, Stella tightened her grip on the phone.
She had thought it over and over before deciding to call him.
୮
Because if Summer really dared to use her own child as part of a setup, then her goal probably wasn’t just to force a divorce.
She wanted to shatter what was left between Stella and Evan beyond repair.
Or maybe even more than that.
