He stepped forward and glanced at the neatly packed containers in front of her. “Who sent this?” he asked coldly.
Stella didn’t even look at him. She kept eating, completely ignoring him.
Evan’s patience snapped. “Why?”
“Why?” Stella finally looked up at him, her voice calm but sharp. “If I hadn’t been careful, I’d be the one in the hospital with food poisoning.”
The first time, he had personally fed her that bowl of soup that landed her in the ER.
This time…
She had just reacted fast enough.
Stella glanced at him, her tone indifferent. “The Wrights and I? We don’t mix.”
It was something Dora used to say about her.
Ever since she lost her first child, Dora had always claimed Stella was bad luck for the family.
Now Stella had thrown that line right back at them.
Evan’s expression darkened.
On the TV, the news was playing-reporting on Helen Franklin being investigated.
“According to evidence provided by Wright Corporation, the allegations against Ms. Franklin have been confirmed. She will bear full legal responsibility for her actions.”
The moment Stella heard “evidence provided by Wright Corporation,” she turned to look at Evan.
His face stiffened.
A flicker of cold displeasure crossed his eyes, clearly directed at how poorly the situation had been handled.
Stella set her spoon down. “So you were the one who handed over the evidence that Helen Franklin abused her position?”
Evan glanced at her but said nothing. He walked over to the couch and sat down.
He pulled out a cigarette, held it between his fingers, but didn’t light it.
Stella watched him. “If you handed over that evidence, then you already know I was pregnant. Right?”
Evan froze.
The word pregnant hit harder than anything else.
Stella thought back to how he reacted to the recording that morning-and suddenly laughed.
The smile on her lips widened, but there was no warmth in it.

It was pure mockery.
So he knew.
He knew she had been pregnant,
He knew she had lost the baby.
Which meant he also knew exactly what kind of person Summer really was.
And yet this morning… what had that been?
Was he really believing Summer? Or just protecting her?
The thoughts spun through Stella’s mind, her smile slowly turning cold.
Before she could speak again, Evan cut in.
“The person who bribed Helen Franklin… wasn’t her.”
His tone was light.
But the certainty in it made one thing painfully clear.
He still trusted Summer completely.
Stella didn’t feel disappointed.
Not anymore.
She had seen this play out too many times over the past six months.
Whenever it involved Summer, it always ended the same way-
It wasn’t her.
No matter what evidence was put in front of him, it didn’t matter.
Just like the recording this morning.
He had even managed to twist it into some AI fabrication from Felix’s company.
Stella looked at him. “Then tell me… my pregnancy, my miscarriage… those were real, right?”
Evan said nothing.
But his chest tightened painfully.
The baby.
Pregnant. Miscarriage.
Those were the two things he had been avoiding thinking about since yesterday.
Now she had dragged them back out into the open.
He closed his eyes briefly.

Sestug his silence, Stella let out a quiet, bitter laugh.
“So you know I was pregnant. You know I lost the baby.
