Chapter 246
At the hospital-
The moment Mrs. Mendes quietly passed along the latest news about the baby, Summer’s face went completely white.
“What did you say? The baby already… already…”
Her voice caught in her throat, too choked to keep going.
Seeing her on the verge of losing control, Mrs. Mendes quickly put a finger to her lips, signaling for her to
stop.
Summer’s breathing turned ragged. “No… how did this…”
She fought to keep her voice down, tears gathering uncontrollably in her eyes.
Mrs. Mendes let out a sigh. “That child just wasn’t meant to stay.”
Summer: “…”
At those words, her tears started falling.
From the moment they decided to use that baby as part of the setup, she had known the child probably wouldn’t survive anyway.
But now that the baby was really gone, her chest still ached.
After all, it was her child.
Mrs. Mendes lowered her voice. “Now that the baby’s dead, all you have to do is insist that it was Stella’s fault.”
Summer’s chest tightened painfully.
At first, the plan had only been to use the baby’s disappearance to frame Stella.
To force Evan to divorce her.
But later, they wanted more than that.
They wanted Stella sent to prison by Evan himself because of this child.
And now the baby was dead…
Dead at the exact moment Evan believed Stella had taken her.
At Mrs. Mendes’s reminder, Summer wiped the tears off her face. “Get the news to Evan.
Mrs. Mendes nodded. “I will.”
“Make sure it’s clean. It’d be best if Evan’s people are the ones who ‘find’ the baby’s whereabouts.”
“Understood.”

What they wanted was for Stella to go to prison because of the baby.
So even passing along the news couldn’t be traced back to them in any way.
Mrs. Mendes stepped out for a while.
When she came back, she gave Summer a small nod and said in a low voice, “Don’t worry. Stella’s going to pay for that baby’s death.”
Fresh tears spilled down Summer’s face. Through gritted teeth, she said, “Yes. Stella has to pay for my child’s death.”
The hatred in her voice made it sound as if Stella had really been the one who killed the baby.
Mrs. Mendes reminded her, “Watch your emotions too. Don’t let the bodyguards outside notice anything.”
After all, everyone outside worked for Evan.
If they picked up on anything, that would be a problem.
Summer lowered her head. “My son is critically ill, and my daughter still hasn’t been found. Me crying makes perfect sense.”
Mrs. Mendes nodded. “That’s true.”
On that point, she had worried for nothing.
Dora had started treating Summer well again now that she thought Ruby’s trouble in Eirden was about to
be resolved.
