He thought that because Steven was dead, the children had become his responsibility. That he had to take care of them.

But was this really about taking care of the children?

Could he seriously not see what Summer wanted from him? Or was he just pretending to be blind?

If he kept “taking care” of them like this, he was going to lose his whole family.

When Evan kept drinking without saying a word, Lucas glanced at him. “So what did she do this time?”

Stella had really been going wild lately.

She burned down a house. Stirred up public opinion. Fought Summer back and forth like the sky was coming down, all because she wanted a divorce.

Evan closed his eyes. “We’re divorced.”

Lucas froze.

So did Leon.

“What?” Lucas stared at him. “Di-divorced?”

He looked like he could not believe his own ears.

Leon was just as stunned. “How did you suddenly agree to it?”

Before this, Stella had caused scene after scene, and Evan still had refused to divorce her.

So what happened this time?

Lucas and Leon exchanged another shocked look.

Then Lucas turned back to Evan. “What the hell did she do now?”

She had raised that much hell before and he still would not divorce her. So whatever happened this time had to be even worse than burning down the house.

What could possibly be worse than that?

Evan said, “The girl from the twins died.”

Lucas went silent.

Leon did too.

The moment they heard that, both of them felt their chests tighten.

They looked at each other, then back at Evan.

Lucas said, “Wait. You think Stella killed the baby just to divorce you?”

Even saying it out loud made his head buzz.

This was way beyond a messy back-and-forth.

This was total destruction,

Evan took several more swigs of liquor “Yesterday, the baby was kidnapped.”

Lucas and Leon both went numb.

What the hell had happened while they were gone?

They had missed all of it.

“I should’ve divorced her sooner,” Evan said.

He paused, his voice thick with pain.

“I had no idea she was this determined to leave me.”

Lucas frowned. “No, come on. You really think Stella killed that child? That doesn’t sound right.”

During the years Stella had been married to Evan, the two of them had always been close.

As far as Lucas was concerned, Stella was not that kind of woman.

She hated Summer, sure. She had even burned down Summer’s mother’s house. But she had never once

touched the children.

How could she possibly kill a baby just to force a divorce?

Evan said nothing. He only smashed the half-empty bottle still in his hand.

It shattered against the stone steps with a sharp crack.

Glass flew everywhere, scattering across the stairs.

Lucas and Leon both fell silent.

Seeing how furious he was, neither of them knew what to say.

How were they supposed to talk him down from something like this?

Still, Leon could not help saying, “Stella doesn’t seem like someone who’d do that. Could this be some kind of misunderstanding?”
