Chapter 274
Whatever Lucas was thinking, he said it out loud.
“Honestly? I’d believe Summer killed that baby with her own hands before I’d ever believe Stella would do something like that.”
The moment the words left his mouth, Evan’s drunken eyes turned razor-sharp.
Leon twitched at the corner of his mouth and looked at Lucas. “No, come on, man. You can’t say it like that.”
Sure, Stella was not that kind of person.
But that did not mean he could just pin everything on Summer either.
In Leon’s mind, Stella would never do something like that.
But Summer would not kill her own child either.
Lucas shot back, “What do you mean I can’t say that? Haven’t the things Summer’s done over the past six months been disgusting enough? If you ask me, her killing the baby just to frame Stella is completely possible.”
Leon fell silent.
The two of them sat on either side of Evan.
Lucas was too worked up to notice the dangerous chill spreading off Evan.
But Leon felt it clearly.
He kept shooting Lucas looks, trying to warn him.
Lucas, however, was in too deep to stop now.
He went on, “Forget Summer. A ruthless woman like Ruby could absolutely kill her own granddaughter
too.”
At this point, Lucas was convinced both Summer and Ruby were possible suspects.
The only person he ruled out completely was Stella.
Feeling the darkness in Evan’s presence grow heavier and heavier, Leon rubbed his forehead.
Lucas’s mouth was truly hopeless.
Evan fixed him with a sharp stare. “What did she do?”
Lucas blinked. “What?”
The question came so suddenly that he did not react right away.
Evan said, “What did Summer do over the past six months that made you hate her that much?”
There was a clear edge in his voice now. Cold. Sharp. Dangerous.

Lucas finally registered it when he met Evan’s eyes.
“Wait, what is that supposed to mean?”
Had he said something wrong?
Why was Evan looking at him like that?
Evan repeated, “What did she do to make you hate her that much?”
Every word sounded like it had been forced out through clenched teeth.
Lucas stared at him.
Was he seriously defending Summer right now?
What the hell?
He had already gotten divorced because of her, and he was still defending her?
Lucas thought about all the times over the past six months that Evan had chosen Summer over Stella.
And now even in front of his own friends, he was doing the same thing.
“What, exactly, is this?” Lucas snapped. “Weren’t we dragged out here because you were miserable after the divorce? So what now? We tell the truth and suddenly you don’t want to hear it?”
Now Lucas was getting irritated too.
No wonder Stella had fought so hard to get out of that marriage.
Who could live like that?
As his friend, Lucas already felt like this relationship was getting hard to maintain.
How much worse must it have been for Stella, the person who had to live with him day after day as his wife?
Evan looked at him and still did not answer.
He only repeated, “I’m asking you. What exactly did she do over the past six months that made you despise her so much?”
