Chapter 860

Stella closed her eyes.

“Go on. I’ll be downstairs in a minute.”

“Yes, Miss Rowan.”

The maid nodded and left.

Once Stella was alone, she remained sitting on the edge of the bed.

She took several slow breaths before finally getting up to dress.

She threw on a robe and went downstairs.

From the staircase, she saw Felix sitting on the couch, radiating coldness.

An unlit cigar rested between his fingers.

Stella walked down and sat on the couch opposite him.

Her expression was far from pleasant.

She had been sleeping soundly, only to be woken in the middle of the night because of Summer.

Now, facing Felix, her expression was ice-cold.

“Where did you take her?” he asked without preamble.

His tone was harsh too.

Clearly, he had no intention of backing down where Summer was concerned.

Stella glanced at him but said nothing.

“She already has kidney failure,” Felix continued. “You know how difficult her situation is. With her rare blood type, she may never find a compatible donor.”

In other words, Summer was already dying.

There was no need for Stella to waste any more effort on her.

But effort was not the real issue between them.

Summer was.

Whether she lived or died had never been the point.

Stella continued staring at Felix in silence.

“Let her go,” he said. “Please.”

So that was the real reason he had come tonight.

Stella laughed coldly.

Her eyes were full of mockery.

“What right do you have to ask me to let her go?”

When it came to Summer, no one had the right to tell Stella what she should do.

“Stella, I don’t want to disappoint you any further.”

“What does that mean?”

If she refused to release Summer, he would disappoint her even more?

Was there still a lower point he could sink to?

“She has to come back.”

“And if I refuse?” Stella asked. “How exactly do you plan to disappoint me this time?”

He did not want to disappoint her further.

How ridiculous.

Felix fell silent.

The room became still.

The look in his eyes was deep and cold.

Stella had seen that same coldness in Evan’s eyes before.

But she was not afraid.

She had never feared Evan.

She certainly would not fear Felix now.

“I hate her that much,” Stella said. “Do you really think she would still be alive after falling into my hands?”

Felix’s face changed sharply.

“You killed her?”

“Why wouldn’t I?”

Felix went still.

Stella had always intended to destroy Summer.

Once Summer was taken by her people, there was no reason to believe she would be spared.

And hearing Stella say it so calmly, Felix believed her completely.

“Then she…”

“You’re worried.”

Stella arched a brow.

Seeing the tension in Felix’s eyes, she no longer knew what to think.

Was he truly this worried merely because Summer was that woman’s half-sister?

It did not feel that way.
