Chapter 908
Then he scooped her into his arms and carried her to the bed.
“Get some sleep. Don’t think about anything.”
He knew he could not push Stella too hard right now.
She assumed Evan would leave after putting her down.
Instead, he climbed onto the bed beside her.
“What’s the point of this?” she asked.
His hand paused as he reached for the blanket.
“What do you mean?”
“You don’t need to use me against Felix. You’ve already seen that I don’t matter that much to him.”
Evan went still.
Her words hit him like an explosion.
Before Stella arrived, he had repeatedly told himself that it did not matter what she said.
No matter how cruel her words were, he would accept them.
He had prepared himself for every possible insult.
But this was worse than an insult.
In her eyes, he had become someone who would use her.
There had once been a time when she would never have believed that of him.
Now it was the first conclusion she reached.
“You’re my wife,” Evan said. “And you actually think I brought you here to use you against Felix?”
“What else am I supposed to think? I’m not naive anymore.”
Evan had no answer.
“You must have practiced everything you said earlier for quite a while,” Stella added, raising a brow.
“Practiced?”
“You never used to talk like that.”
He had never spoken to her so openly or affectionately before.
Even during the past few weeks, while he had constantly pestered her, he had never sounded like this over the phone.
Now his entire manner had suddenly changed.
To Stella, that could only mean one thing.
He wanted something from her.
There was a reason behind all this.
