When did this man become so cold? He just stood there and watched her suffer.

For the first time, Hillary felt real fear. The trump card she had always relied on suddenly meant nothing.

“Raymond… help me… my chest hurts… my medicine… please…”

She curled up on the floor and struggled toward him. Her hands clutched his leg as her body shook. She cried hard, her voice breaking.

Hillary froze. She flipped through the pages again and again, her hands shaking harder.

“This… this isn’t mine. It can’t be! Raymond, this report is fake! How can everything be normal? I feel sick all the time–I know my own body! This isn’t real! Someone must have switched my report!”

Raymond stayed calm.

“I already suspected that doctor. Last time you went in for a checkup, I arranged a full exam with a better team of specialists.”

He paused, watching her.

“I didn’t tell you because I didn’t want you to worry. I was really concerned about you, Hillary.

“But look-good news. You’re perfectly healthy.”

Hillary’s face turned pale. This hit her too suddenly. Her palms were cold with sweat as she gripped the

“So, you’re saying I’m me? That quack tricked me?” she stammered. “But Raymond, I got treated in Montara too. The doctors there said the same thing!”

Raymond gave a small, cold laugh.

“Did you really think I wouldn’t check? Felix called me not long ago. He’s in Montara. He went to the hospital you supposedly visited.”

Raymond’s eyes locked onto hers. “Guess what? There’s no record of you. Not a single visit.”

Hillary shook her head quickly.

“No… that’s not right! I’ve been seeing doctors all this time! Felix must have checked the wrong place. He went to the wrong hospital!”

Raymond pulled out his phone. “Is that so? Then tell me which hospital you went to. I’ll call him right now and have him check.”

Hillary’s face turned red. Her eyes darted around.

“L… I feel confused right now. My head really hurts,” she said, her voice shaking. “I can’t remember which hospital it was. I’ve been to many in Montara. There should be records. Just give me some time, Raymond. Let me think. I’ll tell you which one it was.”

Raymond looked at her, his gaze cold.

“When did you start acting in front of me?” he asked. “Back in college? Or after you came back from Montara?”

Hillary froze for a second. Then she scrambled forward and clung to his feet.

“No, no! I never lied to you, Raymond. I swear, I didn’t!” she cried. “You can’t treat me like this. I saved your life. I was left with serious aftereffects because of it. You can’t deny everything just because of one report!

“That report must be fake. Someone is trying to set me up. It’s Agnes-it has to be her! Ever since I came back, she’s been targeting me, causing trouble for me. She stole you from me! You’re nine, Raymond! You’re mine! We’ve been together for so many years. You can’t be this heartless!

The more she spoke, the more she broke down, crying and shouting at the same time.

Raymond looked at her like she was something disgusting. His voice was flat.

“No one stole me from you. I was never yours.
