"He gave you his corneas to make up for everything he did. He did it to atone!"
Carmen hesitated briefly, then said coldly, "Agnes, my brother said ... said he's already let go of everything!"
Agnes froze for a second, a flicker of mixed emotion passing through her eyes.
After a long silence, she only gave a faint smile and said, "It's good if he's moved on..."
Carmen's voice softened. "I'm sorry, Agnes. I didn't mean to bring this up. I just can't stand seeing you push yourself this hard and blame yourself like this.
"You've done more than enough. Let's just go with the flow, okay?"
She reached out and held Agnes's hand, her voice gentle. "Even without Raymond, you still have me. I'll stay by your side."
Agnes still wore that faint smile at the corner of her lips.
"Carmen, I know you're worried about me, but that's just how I am.
"If I decide to do something, I'll give it everything I've got. I don't give up easily."
Then she patted Carmen's shoulder and said softly, "Don't worry. I'll take care of myself."
Seeing how firm Agnes was, Carmen went still. Her eyes flickered, her mind clearly racing.
After a long silence, she finally spoke. "I'll find a way. Leave it to me."
Agnes looked at her with a mix of surprise and doubt.
"You? Carmen, what could you possibly do?"
Carmen replied, "I know more people than you do. I'll figure something out. Don't worry. I'll get back to you."
The moment Carmen left, her phone rang.
An urgent voice came through the other end.
"Ms. Fletcher, Ms. Sinclair is getting close to finding me.
"She hid a listening and tracking device in the gold bars and even got my license plate.
"Luckily, I was prepared. The plate was fake.
"I also disguised myself when I went to see that middle-aged couple. They probably won't recognize me.
"But I'm worried... Ms. Sinclair is too smart. It's only a matter of time before she finds me."
Carmen stayed quiet for a moment, then gave her orders.
"Get rid of the car. Get a new identity. Leave Grandridge immediately. Don't come back until I tell you to. The money will be in your account."
"Understood."
After hanging up, Carmen headed to a warehouse on the outskirts of Grandridge.
One of her men saw her arrive, he quickly reported. "Ms. Fletcher, you're here. Everything's the same as always. That guy's been cursing nonstop. He's still got a lot of energy left."
Carmen said coldly, "Bring the doctor to me."
