Chapter 92 Sweet Words and Blind Trust

“You all heard her, someone said loudly. “She said she was willing to be the side chick. That says everything about her. How can anyone trust a person like that? She’s a liar! The sugar daddy is gone and now she’s mad. So, she came here to take it out on his girlfriend. If anyone should be ashamed, it’s you, Miss!”
Lucy stood frozen, her face burning with shame, She didn’t know what to do. Her friends saw that things were going bad and stayed silent.
“What? So she’s the homewrecker? Oh my gosh, how can she act so boldly and cause trouble at school like this?”
“Some people really have no shame.”
“Rebecca is so unlucky. She met such a terrible guy.”
“Yeah, I heard she started dating some rich kid recently. It must be him. Sigh, those rich kids, you know how they are.”
People pointed at Lucy and whispered. She couldn’t stand it and tried to leave.
Just then, school security arrived. Agnes had already called them when things got out of hand.
They cleared the crowd and took Lucy and Rebecca to the security office to ask what happened.
In the end, Lucy had to make a public apology to Rebecca. She also paid for the damaged clothes and emotional distress. She promised she would never come to the school to cause trouble again.
After that, Agnes walked Rebecca back to her apartment. She told her everything she had heard at the restaurant, word for word.
Rebecca had been scared all day. Now, after hearing the truth about Ethan, she broke down and cried all night. She couldn’t believe he was that kind of person.
Agnes stayed with her that night. She didn’t go home. She kept her company and tried to comfort her. She also told her to leave Ethan. He wasn’t a good guy.
୮
The next day, Agnes went to school. She told Rebecca she would come see her after class.
But when class ended and Agnes walked out, she saw Rebecca waiting at the door.
And next to her stood Ethan.
Rebecca looked nervous. She kept fidgeting. Agnes felt a sense of unease in her chest.
“Agnes…” Rebecca said softly. “I was going to talk things out with Ethan today. But he explained a lot just now. He even said he wanted to see you. He wants to clear up the misunderstanding, so we came to find you.”
Agnes looked at her, her eyes calm but cold. “A misunderstanding?”

Ethan said, “Hi, Rebecca calls you Agnes, so I’ll call you Agnes too. I’m really sorry you had to see all that. But this is a huge misunderstanding. That girl has been chasing me nonstop. I never paid her any attention. She just kept telling people she was my girlfriend.
“Yesterday, I said some harsh things on purpose, hoping she’d back off. I didn’t expect her to go after Rebecca. That’s my fault. I didn’t handle it well
“My heart belongs to Rebecca. She’s the only girlfriend I have. I love her. Agnes, please believe me. Watch what I do from now on. I’m serious about Rebecca. I’ll protect her.”
His words made Rebecca tear up instantly. She was deeply moved.
She held Ethan’s hand tightly and said through tears, “Agnes, I believe he’s serious about me. I can feel it. Today, I went to talk things out with him and even said I wanted to break up. He kept trying to stop me. He even cried. No guy would cry for someone he doesn’t love.”
Agnes listened and found the situation tricky. This girl was a hopeless romantic.
Even though Ethan sounded sincere, Agnes just couldn’t believe him. What he said to Lucy yesterday didn’t sound fake at all. It sounded real.
Since Agnes stayed silent, Ethan added, “Agnes, to show I’m sorry, I’d like to treat you and Rebecca to a meal. Is that okay?”
Agnes showed no emotion. She said calmly, “No need. Rebecca, do you want to head back with me?”
Rebecca hesitated. Ethan gently said, “Rebecca, I know Agnes doesn’t like me right now. That’s on me. But it’s okay. I’ll prove to her that my feelings for you are real. She cares about you. You should go with her.”
Rebecca bit her lip, looking reluctant. “Ethan… okay… I’ll go first.”
Agnes took her hand and led her toward the school gate, even as Rebecca kept looking back.
