He scratched his head, saying, “I’ve given Briana plenty of trouble before. Now, I need to start fixing things for her instead.”

“You did way more than just help out; you were a lifesaver,” Shepard said with a grin. “You got the evidence, made it out in one piece, and managed to hang in there until Briana and I showed up.”

Charles let out a heavy sigh.

Just thinking about it made him frustrated.

“I was too impulsive,” Charles admitted. “I could’ve gotten away clean, but I couldn’t hold back my temper and acted recklessly. That’s when Edward noticed…”

“It’s all in the past, don’t sweat it. What’s left is a piece of cake,” Shepard said.

The mask was off now.

If things were coming to a head, then let’s handle it right now.

Shepard lifted his chin and said coolly, “Open the door.”

Edward stood there as if he hadn’t heard a word.

But it didn’t matter.

If Shepard wanted in, he could always find a way.

The bodyguard jogged up and pressed the button.

The carved doors slowly swung open, welcoming Shepard and Briana inside.

Briana walked up behind Shepard, pushed his wheelchair, and walked in openly, not bothering to hide anything.

Shepard was still wearing his hospital gown, lips pale, but his presence dominated the room; he exuded a strength that made everyone else seem insignificant.

“Originally, I wanted to wait until I was fully healed before coming after you, settling every score,” Shepard said, his tone calm but carrying an undeniable authority. “Edward, your good days end liere.”

Edward just stood there in silence.

Nothing he said would matter now.

Shepard arched an eyebrow, saying, “You’re the reason I ended up like this.”

Suddenly, a sharp, piercing female voice rang out, “No. It wasn’t my dad; it was me. Blame me for everything, every single mistake is mine.”

Sophia came running out of the Lane residence, yelling as she went.

Sophia said, “I arranged for the truck driver. I was the one who wanted Briana dead. My dad had nothing to do with it. Arrest me, punish me, whatever. He’s got nothing to do with this. I’m the culprit. I admit it all.”

Edward glanced at Sophia, surprised.

Her face streaked with tears, Sophia stumbled over to him.

“Dad, I’m so sorry. I was a terrible daughter, dragged you down, and ruined you.” Sophia said, “My recklessness brought suspicion on you and shattered our family. Otherwise, maybe just the company went bankrupt. We might not survive this, and it’s all my fault.”

Sophia finally realized the disaster her recklessness had brought upon them.

All she could do now was shoulder the responsibility herself.

Edward looked at Sophia, and for the first time, the stoic mask he always wore finally cracked.

“Sophia, you’re my daughter. You’re still so young; how can you take the blame for all this?” Edward said softly. “Our family… We’ll need you to carry on.”

“Dad, you’ve spent your whole life holding this family together. How could I just stand by and watch you…” Sophia said.

The words just wouldn’t come.

Edward definitely wasn’t a good guy.

But as a father, he was the best.

From the time Sophia was little, he gave her everything she wanted, spoiling her, making sure her path was smooth, always scheming for her future.

And it was that endless pampering that made Sophia so entitled and headstrong.

Edward tried to speak, but before any words could come, tears slipped down his face.

His heart was breaking.

Edward clenched his jaw, took a deep breath, and turned to face Briana.

Edward couldn’t keep up the act anymore.

So Edward decided to just come clean and say it straight.

“Yes,” Edward said. “Charles, Briana, I orchestrated your parents‘ deaths. That car crash wasn’t some random accident; it was deliberate. I never intended for them to die, but once the crash happened, things spiraled out of control… and that’s how they lost their lives.

“And Briana, I arranged your accident, too. I wanted you gone because I couldn’t stand the sight of you. You were supposed to have nothing, at my mercy. How dare you marry Shepard? How dare you rise up and destroy everything I worked for?”

Edward roared, his voice raw and twisted with fury, “That’s why I wanted you dead.”

His cry, full of agony and despair, echoed through the silent night, cutting through the darkness like a blade,

“No, that’s not it.” Sophia shook her head desperately, saying, “Dad, I’m the one who wanted Briana dead; it was all me. Why are you trying to take the blame for everything?”

“Enough. Sophia, go back to the villa and stay inside. You’re not allowed to come out,” Edward said.

Sophia shook her head, refusing to leave. Instead, she rushed forward and grabbed Edward’s arm. She said, “Dad, you’ve done so much for this family. You should be able to enjoy your later years. Let me go to prison. Let me be the one.”

Edward was about to say something else, but Briana interrupted him. She said, “That’s enough.”
