I exhale a quiet sigh of relief, grateful that Aunt Mabel seems to grasp the gravity of my suggestion. Without wasting a moment, we slip away from the bustling main living room, seeking the sanctuary of the Alpha residence for a more private discussion. As I approach the door, Alayah stands there, her presence instantly soothing my frayed nerves. I lean in, burying my face into the warm curve of her neck, inhaling her familiar scent. In this embrace, I find a moment of solace, a brief respite for both Khal and myself.

“Why did Khal roar?” Alayah’s voice breaks the silence, her curiosity evident. I instinctively halt Uncle Josh from responding, wanting to steer the conversation back to the matter at hand. “Have you made a decision?” I inquire, my tone serious and firm. It’s crucial that everyone understands the weight of the actions taken against our bond and the respect owed to the Alpha. Disrespecting the Mate-bond or the Alpha is a line that cannot be crossed without repercussions.

Alayah nods, her expression contemplative as she guides me to a plush couch. I settle down, pulling her onto my lap, feeling the warmth of her body against mine. The room is thick with anticipation; no one speaks, each of us waiting for Alayah to share her thoughts. I am prepared to support her, whatever her decision may be.

She finally speaks up, her voice steady yet tinged with uncertainty. “I had a lengthy conversation with Topaz about what to do. We both believe that every victim deserves justice, and those who broke the Law must face the consequences of their actions.”

“I understand,” I reply, my heart swelling with pride for her conviction. “But this isn’t just about justice. It’s about the future of our Pack.” Alayah’s brow furrows as she continues, “I wasn’t raised to be an Alpha or even a Beta. The thought of stepping into the Alpha office, dealing with all the responsibilities, is daunting. And I worry that our Pack hasn’t been keeping up with their training. If I take over, they need to be prepared for a completely different future.”

I take a breath, ready to reassure her. “The training schedule has remained unchanged since Blood Stone Pack was founded,” I explain, glancing at Grandpa, who nods in agreement.

Just then, a knock on the door interrupts our conversation. Bryson rises to answer it, greeted by an Omega who informs him that breakfast is ready in the main dining room. “We’ll be having breakfast here,” Bryson replies, his tone brokering no argument. “There are important matters we need to discuss without the rest of the Pack.”

Moments later, three Omegas arrive, balancing trays laden with a feast. They set the food down in our makeshift dining area and exit, leaving us to our discussion.

Leaning back against Nikolay’s chest, I feel the weight of the question settle over us. It’s one I’ve pondered repeatedly, and while Topaz and I have struggled to find an answer, Grandpa seems to have one. He mentions that the current Beta has only a daughter who recently found her Mate and moved to his Pack. That answers part of the question, but the Gamma position remains open, and I know I can’t ask one of my Mates to take it on.

I need someone in that role who isn’t afraid to challenge me when necessary, regardless of gender. Uncle Josh then shares that their Gamma has no children, as he is part of a same-sex couple. They chose to remain childless to protect the Pack’s secrets, sacrificing their desire for parenthood to safeguard our community.

Topaz suddenly points out a possibility I hadn’t considered, but it requires me to discuss it with my family, hoping no one takes offense at my suggestion. It’s the best solution for our current predicament, yet I also need to address another matter that Topaz and I had agreed upon, and I’m uncertain if it’s feasible.

As the Omegas clear the table, we return to the living room, and I seize the moment to ask Bastian about the Lycans who accompanied him when we arrived. He explains that they are the future Deltas of Blood Stone Pack, and due to the Pack’s growth, two additional Deltas have been added over the years. He shares how much he enjoys collaborating with them daily.

The moment the door closes behind the Omegas, the atmosphere shifts, and I sense the weight of expectation upon me. “Grandpa, is it possible to hold an Alpha Ceremony in secret?” I ask, my heart racing. Just as he opens his mouth to respond, Uncle Josh’s phone buzzes, capturing everyone’s attention. He glances at the screen, a smile spreading across his face. “Three Elders are at the gate,” he announces, “and they have a favor to ask from the Alpha.”
